Saw my rheumy yesterday. If I have a flare, I go back to see her right away otherwise in three months. My bloodwork came back good. She does not feel I have PMR but she said it may be osteoarthritis rather than rheumatoid arthritis. My bloodwork is not definitive but it is definitely autoimmune according to the markers. No meds unless pain returns then a lower dose of MTX than I was taking to start and prednisone if needed. She has prescribed Physical Therapy for my arms. I’m happy for the moment, but she feels all pain will return as MTX leaves my system. May be looking at knee injections again. Wishing you all a good day and a good weekend ahead. Will be celebrating my daughter’s and granddaughter’s mutual birthdays. 😊

Sounds like a mix of news... there should be a plan to keep any auto immune disease subdued. I have RA and OA on top but it is easy to discern RA inflammation with ultrasound scans; Rheumatology here has one in Rheumatologist consultant room.
When blood markers start rising, is there intention to prescribe a new DMARD?
Steroids are a temporary measure, not permanent treatment to keep auto immune disease controlled.
Charisma, my steroids are prescribed for calming of flares only. But I do know some who are on 5 mg a day for years. All bloodwork is not definitive and some doctors interpret wrongly. I have a really good rheumatologist and I’m thankful for her diligent observations. My post was to update those who have followed my tribulations with the RA. And, of course, we are looking at the possibility of other meds.
