My forefinger between the first and second joints feel like razor blades are cutting deep down in the finger...only sometimes. It used to be once or twice a month now it’s once or twice a week. I told my doctor but he says he doesn’t know what it is...end of conversation. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON?

Finger pain
Hi budman
Sorry to learn of your pain as this is a tricky on to pin down. What meds do you take if you have RA? Do you smoke?
Im on mtx, sulpha and hyproxy and the last three days my left hand and fingers seems to be a blush red in color and thumb and index fingers itchy. This cold be that I have been drinking a daily fruit smoothie lately as Im trying to loose weight or could be something else I just dont know but if it gets worse I will go to the docs and ask for a blood test and ask them to check the sugar content in my blood.
Meantime I will skip the smoothies and see what happens. So if I was you I would get to your doctor asap and ask for a second opinion. Now the reason I asked if you smoked as I used to smoke years ago and had pains similar to yours and my doc said it was the lack of oxygen getting into the blood stream due to smoking thats giving me bad circulation that caused this so thats why I stopped smoking. Hope this helps.
I believe that's just RA pain. I'm not sure how to describe the pain I feel to ppl, but razor blades is good. I usually just say they feel broken, or broken glass under my skin, cutting through.
Are you on any meds? It may be that it's not cutting it for you anymore.
Also, have you changed anything else that would be causing it to become more frequent?
Sorry for all the questions.. just trying to help get to the bottom of it.
Sad about how the doctor responded, though. If they don't feel the pain, they just can't relate.
I find that this type of pain comes and goes, but it is worse after over-use (including using a mouse). It does feel like a knife going into the joint!
It helps to wear the compression gloves I have from the occupational therapist.
This is my worst place too...other than my knees. I use a computer a lot for work and have wondered whether it's exacerbated by that - especially with the right hand on the mouse. I've mentioned it to my Rheumatologist who has given me injections in them. They are painful whilst being done but relief is instantaneous, lasting for a month. Good luck
