I don't want to love this post, just acknowledge it.

Yes, and nothing about RA is cheerful!

Yes I did know about the increased risk of heart problems & the depression/anxiety of course makes sense but I didn’t know about the increased risk of having a stroke. Good to made aware of these facts. Thanks.

Anything else to cheer us up.....we need more help

Well I agree we want RA to be treated seriously, and differently from OA...but scaring vulnerable people with statements like this wasn't quite how I saw it panning out!

Maybe a little more thought & a little less drama?

I think it really important that people with RD know the risks , the symptoms and signs of potential problems and what to do about them.

The risks are the risks. We need more information , not less to enable us to take the best avoidable care we can.

But maybe put a little bit more delicately? Not many newly diagnosed really understand what an auto immune disease really is......I know I have had to explain it

to a lot of people.

We all take risks in life....& we cope with them through experience gathered over time.

I think that’s how most if us cope with our RD...not reading posters which could scare the life out of us.

Good morning, I've had RA for 39yrs I've always tried to stay positive and mostly putting in the background of my life, however seeing that advert I felt was very negative and to be quite honest upsetting, and I'm not one to take things in and get upset, i thought it was alarming and for a newly diagnosed person or youngster of which I was once, quite frightening. That's just my opinion, but I certainly appreciate all the good work you do for us.

Agree 100%.....Not subjects I would want to be made immediately aware of on diagnosis!

Tell me calmly once I’ve found a drug that suits me & I can see the wood for the trees...not when i’m In the depths of despair thinking I should order a wheelchair.

I don’t read FB.....seems an odd place for RA info to be circulated though?

Maybe there will be an Ad on Love Island next... but I don’t think I could bear to watch it to find out!

I know it’s good to be reminded of the risks we all face. But I’m sure people worry ( I certainly do) about the RA limiting the amount of exercise we can do in order to help our hearts. When you are in pain and can hardly move it’s hard to hear that you should be doing cardiovascular exercise.

I seem to remember some research suggesting that the risks are reduced if the inflammation is kept under control?

Mmrr profile image

Yes, I believe so , when RD is under control all risks are reduced.

I believe that recent study has shown that where RA is well treated and NSAIDS are not taken regularly the risks are now considered to be much the same as in the general public age for age - of heart and stroke problems anyway. I

I have used that to raise awareness in those who think it’s ‘just arthritis’. Good for RAAW! :-)

Depressed and anxious now. My Mum and brother both died of coronaries, Mum also had many mini strokes, another brother has had a quadruple heart bypass. I tend to practice the ostrich pose, if I can't see it it won't get me.
