Just a few short weeks later, we will be hosting another webinar! On Thursday 6th June, 7pm our expert speaker will be Professor Chris Buckley who will be presenting: 'Why does having a cellular atlas (map) of the joint matter to people with rheumatoid arthritis?'. This is going to be a fascinating webinar looking at the latest cutting edge research into RA and how it might influence the future of treatment or even find a cure! Details are as follows:
Diseases of the joint are a leading cause of disability in the UK. Many joint diseases cannot be cured with existing therapies and there are very few – if any – treatments available to stimulate repair of damaged joint tissues. While we know all the anatomical structures that make up a joint and many of the genes that are associated with arthritis, currently we do not know how many different types of cells make up a human joint. Establishing the cellular basis for diseases is a major challenge for the 21st century so that microorganism (germ, virus, bacterium) pathways and processes can be attributed to the right cell, in the right organ, at the right time. While current treatments target the pathway acting as the cause, they are ‘blind’ to the microorganism causing the problem in the cell involved. This cutting-edge project is part of the larger Human Cell Atlas project, an international consortium to map the different cell types in all human organs. Our joint atlas will be an essential reference map of the key components of healthy joints and will greatly help to accelerate our ongoing investigations of the cellular causes of arthritis, by providing a “google map” definition of the joint. Join this webinar to hear in detail about this research and how it may change the future of treatment for rheumatoid arthritis.
