Well I am clearly incompetent. After the nurse telling me how easy it is and how I would be fine, I have just followed the instructions but a big drop of methotrexate came out onto my leg. I think some/ most went in but I am worried now.
Has this ever happened to any of you? Am I really stupid to get this wrong?
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi, your not incompetent at all, these things take a bit of getting used too. I think you should contact your rheumatology helpline tomorrow for some advice and maybe be reshown how to inject for next week ?
It probably just means you have not had the full dose from the injection this week.
Thank you for your reply. Yes I’m hoping they will let me come back and do it with supervision again next week. I think some must have definitely gone in because I feel sick 😂🤢😫I just wish I knew how much is not enough (if that makes any kind of sense!)
You didn't get it wrong, I think you probably needed to give it a couple more seconds that's all. Do you press button and count to 5? If so perhaps count to 10 instead. I often get a small drop on my leg when I get impatient. Anyway a drop of two isn't much, as its amazing how much liquid is in those syringes...tip two teaspoons of water over your leg and you can see it's much more than a big drop!
Ah thanks for that HH. So it sounds like I should still count this as having taken my Mtx for the week then? I was so blasé this time. Serves me blooming right.
It happened to me a lot. Dont worry, some will have gone in just not the full ammount. Get the nurse to show you again. I was told not to repeat it untill the next week as you cannot be sure how much has gone in. It can take a few goes (or more in my case 😂) to get it right
I been doing mine first while but last week same happened to me.Mine has little window on it and you can see the spring going down inside but all of sudden I lost my grip and whole lot sprung up sending liquid all over leg.Crazy thing with RA if you have it your hands are effected and you are expected to do these.but hey ho you will get it right so don't worry. Am sure on u tube there must be a video tutorial you can repeatedly watch to help you
Depending on your hands, using even the relatively straightforward injectors can be a production and I second everyone who says that a relatively small volume can look like a lot.
It takes a while to build up the skill to do this and it's made the more difficult by being something that you do so infrequently (so to speak).
Don't go worrying yourself, it occasionally happens to us all. Just carry on as normal and maybe leave the needle in for a little longer next week. You'll be fine. xx
When I use my metaject pen I put the palm of my hand over plunger and push down find this more comfortable and have more control. Hope you manage the next one x
