CoQ10 and RA

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/263...

..Conclusion: This study showed beneficial effects of CoQ10 supplementation on inflammatory cytokines and oxidative stress in rheumatoid arthritis patients.

I think this is generally a useful supplement to take especially for anyone over 40ish. Heart, Blood Pressure and lung beneficial from what I have read too. Only generally prescribed for those on Statins (ugh).

Can't quite fathom how beneficial though.

What I like about CoQ10 is that it is a natural substance that is just produced less by the body as we age. So likely to have only benefits.

And I always ask more questions.....

First off, how long was the study? As is MDA, and TNF-a always rock stable in blood or is there a normal fluctuation in these levels?

And a difference of -1.47 and +0.03 means nothing to me. Is this a lot or a little? Also, if it's statistically different is it also clinically different? Ie is this change enough to make a difference?

All these small bits of research are great, but I find I end up with more questions than answers. Still as long as you don't mind paying for it this one at least can't harm.

Without going into all research done the fact is that you get the same effect with a very little dose of vit. K2. 2mg instead of taking a much larger dose of Q10. If you really want to learn about Q10 and its role in metabolism you should look into more thorough scientific litterature.😊🤓

Thanks for posting—you don’t need a prescription for CoQ10 though—in the US. So unless it conflicts with something—it may be ok. I’ve found most RA docs don’t know much about nutrition or vitamins so maybe a GP or naturopath would help.

I’ve taken it for about a year. My dr wants me to take red yeast rice for cholesterol and it’s suggested that I also take CoQ10 with it so I do.

Thank you for that info! My question is the name of a reliable brand that guarantees purity. Would welcome suggestions!

If you’re in the US, look for the USP seal. Nature Made is one of the brands that has the USP seal that certifies contents and purity. COQ10 is also recommended for migraines, MS and is powerful in antioxidant action.
