Chest pain from RA

Hi everyone.

I wanted to share this with the forum as it might be important for someone.

I have gone to hospital frequently for bad chest pains thinking it was my heart.

Sometimes i was diagnosed as having a panic attack.

After six hours each time wired up the blood tests revealed no heart damage.

This has happened to me a few times each year but the last three years there have been no episodes.

My rheumatoligist told me it is a symptom of RA .... a musco - skeletal spasm.

EAch time it lasted 15 to 20 minutes and was very frightening. It can come on when i am sleeping or just relaxing. A few times i have been a bit stressed.

It would actually start as tightness in the throat and then a crushing feeling.

I have had every heart test under the sun with good results. I am 68 yrs old.

Hope this helps someone.

Rosie

However if you do get chest pain always go to your hospital or doctor.

Hi Rosie thanks for that I too get the same effects and have been cleared if anything but thought it might be the RA. We get so many side effects It’s hard to keep up with them . Pam x

Hi Rosie it happened to me last year and as I have angina also I called NHS 24, they sent for an ambulance and the paramedics had me checked and it turned out it was my ra but I thought it was a heart attack at the time xxx

Thank you, Rosie! I am currently in hospital having been admitted for severe chest pains. The doctors have ruled out a heart attack and are now exploring the possibility of a blood clot in my lung but I’m sure the pains are spasms as your rheumatologist suggested. Your post has been most comforting; thank you again xx

I hope it all goes well. It's good that you are being checked out properly. I haven't had any problems since I was started on magnesium. Kind regards, Rosie
