Reaction to RA Meds and Carpal Tunnel?

RA - Brain Fog, Exhaustion & Carpal Tunnel!

Hi, I have RA and have been on Sulfasalazine and Hydroxychloroquine for about 3 years. It seems to keep RA under control mainly (few flares) but no real side effects. I went on holiday recently and forgot meds so had no meds for over 2 weeks. Since starting again I have literally felt dreadful, totally exhausted no matter how much sleep I get, constantly feeling sick to point can't eat - have no appetite anyway - and total brain fog. I'm wondering if this is because I missed medication for 2 week and have gone straight back on high dose? Or maybe I can no longer tolerate medication.

Also have had the worst wrist pain, in both wrists which shoots up and down arms and into fingers. Fingers tingling and numb a lot. Got a huge swelling on left wrist so much so that I can't wear wrist braces. Just wondering if this could be carpal tunnel?

IN a bit of a mess at moment so welcome to any suggestions.

Hello. Sorry to hear you feel so rotten. Perhaps you are having a flare? Can you phone rheumatology?

It sounds as if you need some advice from your rheumatology team.

It does sound as 2 weeks off meds is enough for you to go into a flare. If is Carpal Tunnel that would account for inflammation causing the pain & tingling/numbness. Usually it affects all but your little finger. Otherwise I would agree with the others, speak with your Rheumy team, ring the helpline on Monday.

I have had the same feelings the last few times I’ve taken cosentyx. Scary when you have nerve pain and reaction. Saw my r doc yesterday and really not sure if it’s a reaction to the preservative in the med... the med... or a flare that has taken on a new form. I’m too scared to take the drug again but also upset as after the week of horrific pain all has been good.... just beginning to flare this morning... still on 10 mg pred.... hate this disease. 😔
