Not a present to me, but given to my partner...he received a small leather keyring from a family member, in a beautiful presentation box. Having no idea what the inscription was we googled it. It was from a sports manufacturer, the keyring costing £60 !!!!!

We still wonder what the thinking behind it was.

in reply toMmrr

Did he get it from a Rep connected to his workplace and think it would make a nice gift?

That’s what I was thinking, a freebie!

in reply toSoreknees2016

A weird object that was obviously second hand later identified as a gizmo to re-cork a part-used wine bottle.

A pogo stick when l was about 7 years old. I jumped from the roof of the house on it for a super bounce and it just stuck straight into the lawn, it hurt, my friends laughed.

Oops.lol.xxxx

The most ridiculous present for me anyone could give would be 1)An expensive gift box containing all colour nail varnish you could possibly imagine ( I have only ever possessed a clear nail varnish for emergency use on laddering tights) 2) Earrings- mine aren't pierced 3) Eyebrow brush. I haven't any. I was told by a beautician that the latter could be weaved?? but I think they need planting first. So you are down for the nail varnish Sylvi, possibly earrings too? Eyebrow brush anyone? Anyone had adhesive eyebrows in a Xmas cracker? Now they would be useful!!

Not a present as such but my running group does a fancy dress run, followed by food and fun. I'm well known for my hatred of scented candles so was well pleased with my Secret Santa present of gloves and a runner charm and was even more delighted to win Pass The Parcel, until I opened it and discovered it was a candle! The howls of laughter from all soon made me realise I had been well and truly set up! :)

I'm with you on the scented candles. Yuch !

in reply toDoricQuine55

I put a scarf over my nose when entering shops with scented candles over Xmas.

I was given a tin of sweets for diabetics (I'm not diabetic!). In true Nettie fashion I ate the whole tin. I had the trotskies for a week!

I didn't loss weight either!

I later found out it was given me by miatake as I had said I wanted to try herbal tea and the person mis understood and had hunted high and low to find me herbal toothpaste. Dont like herbal tea either 😂🤣😂🤣

As a child my Gran always gave me girly dresses, I always preferred the clothes she gave my brother! I would get these eventually as hand me downs. As an adult my Dad gets some interesting things for us 1) A drone, my husband played with it for about an hour and scared the cat (my brother managed to fly his out of his 5th floor flat 😂). 2) Amazon echo dot, we had it plugged in for about a month and all we did was get her to tell us jokes or ask her stupid questions.

oooh yes my hubbie got me an Alexa last year - more for him than me I think - the only thing its good for is shouting a shopping list at !

I’ve had one for a year and so far I’ve only managed to set it up to turn the radio and a lamp on and off, and of course, shout my shopping list orders from the kitchen!

A work colleague bought me one of those hard loofah brushes you use in a sauna.not impressed as I always took great care in what I bought her.

Needless to say I didn't use.went to charity

I’ve had many questionable presents from a certain relative who buys random stuff in the January sales without any real thought as to whether things are to the taste of the eventual recipient. The funniest one though was not given to me but to a work colleague in the Secret Santa - the most sophisticated, stylish woman in our office was given a bag for clothes pegs....😂

My dad, bless him, thought that I wore too much of the same colours - red, black, marroon, pink, but mainly darkish ones, so he and my mum bought me a pale lemon yellow fleece, I am not the slimmest and it made me look and feel like a fat duckling, at least it was warm I suppose........
