Calf Pain with Rheumatoid Arthritis

Is it normal to experience muscle pains with RA? I've never had it before, but recently since my knees and hips have been playing up, I've noticed a throbbing pain in my right calf (I haven't done any exercise to provoke it). It shoots down my leg to my ankle and feels really tensed up. Just wondering if anyone has experienced this or if it could be something else besides my RA?

I do especially in legs. Just assumed it was impact from joints but I’d get it checked out or ring advice line if worrying you x

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. I have a doc appointment in 2 weeks so I will definitely mention it then and see what they think. Thank you! x

Yes I do, the back of my knees/bottom of hamstrings are especially bad, probably compensating for my bad knees, haven't been able to kneel down for months !!!

Sounds very similar to me and makes sense if muscles are overcompensating for joints.. Hope you get some relief!

Hi, it could be Fibromyalgia. I have RA and Fibro. The latter affects the muscles, makes them painful and feeling of weakness. Try stretching the muscle gently thats causing pain and make sure to let your GP and Rheumy know. Xx

Hi sorry for my delay! I have thought about this recently... I'm starting to notice it in both legs now. I'm seeing rheumy next week so I will definitely mention it. Who officially tests and diagnoses for fibro? I think I have some of the other symptoms too, but it's hard to tell because they blur with RA.

Check the side effect of meds some can cause muscle pain.

Just an update: Doc thinks the calf pain is related to inflammation and tightness in my ankle tendons so I'm to see a podiatrist / physio.
