My gp gave me a cortisone injection in the base of my spine , I’ve since been told he shouldn’t have done it just in surgery is that right? Was he ok doing that ?

Cortisone injection
GP’s can usually give a steroid injection into your bottom (not right in the cheek but just above almost in your lower back) or if they are trained to into your knee but I’ve never heard of them doing it in someone’s spine without it being done at the hospital. I would contact your rheumatologist.
I’ve had two but they were both done in hospital with me lying on an X-ray machine.
Depends on his training. I would ask the rheumatologist next time about it, saying that you were a bit worried.
My rheumatologist told me years ago that a directive had gone out(from whom/where I don't know) that all holistic steroid Injections should be given in the thigh......not around the hip area where they used to be given. The reason being in the hip area you could hit a nerve & end up with a "dead leg".
I have only had spinal injections under Xray guidance. My GP has never given me any sort on injection...always sends me to my Rheumy.
Ive had a number of steroid injections , the injections for bursitis i had in consults room , the sacroiliac injections and facet joint injections had to carried out under x- ray guidance. If you are worried you should talk to the gp or go back to th doctor who did the injection. I hope the steroid injection is helping though !! Best wishes.
