Hi, I haven't been here in a little while. After my last surgeries 2017, I hadn't really had too much problem with my RA, maybe it went into remission. Anyway its back and affecting all parts of my body. I am now just started taking arava(leflunomide 10mg.along with 2 5mg prednisone in the morning. Prednisone for 2 weeks than taper down to one. Anyway, I have appt with orthopedic today to see about getting both knees replaced. Both are affected by both RA and osteo and I have no cartilage left in either knee. It stopped me in my tracks 2 weeks ago so that I really can't get around.Has anyone here had knee replacement with RA and did the RA affect your knees later

knee replacements with RA
Hi Mickeysmom,
I had both my knees replaced in the same operation in 2000. I was 42 at the time and have had RA since I was 27. Since then I've had to have a revision of my right knee in 2011 because I'd worn it out! Having TKRs has opened up my life again and I don't regret it. Sometimes, if I overdo things I can feel it in my knees (as well as other lower joints) but it is nothing like the pain you are experiencing now.
Hope this helps and if you need to know more please ask

Hi.
I've had two hips abd two knees. The replacements will help loads. They are done not just fir pain but because of the deterioration and erosion of joint causing pain. Yes afterwards in a severe flare you can get pain I knees but nothing like the pain before. If you need them done don't hesitate. Be guided by your rheumy and ortho. Super good luck. X
