Mtx and folic acid.

I have my mtx injection on Wed evening before bed, I find I get less side effects if taken at night. My question is, do I miss out my folic acid on Wed morning or Thurs morning?

Currently I'm missing it out on Wed morning but not sure this is right.

Wednesday. I take mine at night and was confirmed by my consultant not to take on the day you take it and okay the day after. X

I inject on a Tuesday night & take my folic acid on weds after my evening meal. My rheum nurse said the dose should be taken 24 hours after the methotrexate. Linda

That was sort of my question. Because I inject at night, I take my folic acid next morning which is only about 8 hours later.

Based on what my rheum nurse says if you inject on weds evening you should take your folic acid on Thurs evening. I take folic acid 6 days a week always after my evening meal. When I was on tablets I always took folic acid in the morning as I took my mtx tablets in a morning. I switched to injections due to side effects & decided to inject in an evening so had to swap the folic acid time as well. If in doubt contact your rheumatology helpline as rheumatologists vary in what they want you to do. Linda

You miss it on the day you have your injection, so yes, that is the Wednesday xx

Does anyone know the rational for not taking folic acid the same day as MTX? I’ve seen many ppl post that but my rheumy told me to take my folic acid everyday...no skipping on MTX day. Thanks!

I believe it's because the folate can inhibit the absorption of the mtx. The advice does seem to differ, particularly across the Atlantic.
