Methotrexate Stopped due to Liver Function Test Results

Hi all, I've been taken off Methotrexate after being hospitalized due to being extremely ill with vomiting and headaches. My liver function tests came back raised and a scan showed dilated biliary ducts (19 mm ) . Methotrexate was stopped and I was given a steroid injection to help me through. I have an MRCP due this weekend as they think I may have a blockage, I've been in quite a bit of pain (no gallbladder btw).

The tiredness and generally feeling unwell is getting me down now, and my concern is that I will have a wait until the Methotrexate starts working if they put me back on it , if not I so hope they offer me an alternative.

I've been without medication for 6 weeks now and am really struggling. Has anyone had a similar experience? I'm getting so down and am worried about the outcome of the MRCP scan.

To top it all my rheumatologist appointment in August has yet again been cancelled due to "unforeseen circumstances " . This is the 6th time , I have seen the nurse but feel I really need to speak to the rheumatologist about this.

That sounds awful Lizzie and really worrying, you poor thing. 6 cancellations!! Could you email advice line and ask for any cancellations: I did this once with real concerns about meds side effects, instead of ringing and got fitted in pdq: sometimes better putting in writing I think xx good luck.

Hi Lizzy-m I've had something similar with my liver levels, not with vomiting, thank goodness. Don't let them keep you off meds for too long, I went 18 months without my usual meds and it was horrendous. They did allow my biologic infusion in the end though, it was only a few weeks ago I went back on MTX with weekly blood tests but that's stopped again because of my liver levels. I hope they've got a good reason for cancelling and I hope you get sorted soon xx
