New Rheumy changed the name of my seronegative arthritis to psoriatic arthritis

Hi folks,

After my Rheumy appointment yesterday I was told I have psoriatic arthritis but he wasn’t changing my initial diagnosis (seronegative inflammatory arthritis) as it makes no difference.......

Anyone have any thoughts on this? I’m not sure he’s correct??

Hi there.

I was diagnosed with PsA 4 years ago.

Inflammatory arthritis is classed as sero negative if you do not test positive for RA.

Treatment is pretty much the same as if you had RA, certainly that's been the case with me.

Best wishes.

Strange one my first diagnosis by rheumy said psoriatic as my father had psoriasis but then changed to rheumatoid saying symptoms are much the same and so is medication . It took 3 months of trial and error to find right medication and had to have 10 steroid injections to hold off pain and swelling. Anyway going off your subject a bit but good to get some of it off my chest as nobody really understands other than on this forum. Hopefully ra awareness week will help. Have a good day everyone.

My rheumatologist suspects that my sero negative RA is actually psoriatic arthritis also, but it seems that the treatment is the same so it doesn’t matter much. My joints don’t seem to be effected in a symmetrical way, I do have scalp psoriasis, and my finger nails are very bad. She wants to biopsy the psoriasis, but it won’t flare while I’m on meds and she doesn’t want to take me off just for that.

I have had the same so that I could try a drug that is only available if you have PsA. If it works as it has then I am for going with the flow. Rheumy said if anything changes then I go back to sero neg RA or if my bloods ever change to Sero + RA or lupus or rhupus or any number of combinations that my body hasn't coughed up yet. I also have no psoriasis nor does anyone in my family.
