sharp pain in middle finger above the knuckle

someone had written about a sharp pain in middle finger like something had bitten me or burn me, there is nothing there. all of a sudden sharp pain and then i rub it then it gone and when least expect it it does it again. it on my left hand middle finger above the knuckle. what is this. no cut or swelling

I often get this type of stab. I think it is just part of the condition, perhaps when a tendon catches in its sheath or a nerve gets nipped by the inflammation and swelling around it. Sometimes it feels as if I have a splinter down the nail, or in the flesh - but there's nothing there.
