Does anyone else find that certain foods cause flare ups of PSA?
Flare up: Does anyone else find that certain foods... - NRAS
Flare up
Not a flair up, but some joint pain. Onions and garlic are problematic for me. Causes IBS symptoms which seems to trigger joint pain. I'm fine once I've got them out of system
Thank you. New to all this and the correct terminology but do seem worse after certain foods.
The only thing you can do, is if you find you get more pain or other. symptom after eating certain foods is to avoid them for say 6 months, then eat them again & see if the symptom returns.
As a young woman I was plagued with food allergies,& after years of scientific. Intervention. my doctors eventually agreed that was the way to go, & it has served me well for over 50 years.
Gluten. Cheese. But not invariably. Sometimes I can get away with a nibble. At other times, I am fairly certain that they aggravate my pain,
Hi
Both PsA and RA are inflammatory conditions. Therefore, anything that causes inflammation in the body will exacerbate any inflammatory condition. The worst food culprits are red meat and fried foods like chips. A really bad meal would be fast food like burger/sausages and chips. Takeaways, which tend to have a high content of fried food and oil are also bad.
Takeaway shops tend to use the same oil over and over again and this is even worse than just ordinary fried food. Also, do not use olive oil to cook food because it is very inflammatory at high temperatures and loses all its good properties. There are certain oils (which I will have to look up) which can be used normally in cooking though I would be very careful of fried food if you have an inflammatory condition.
Red meat also contains prostaglandins which will exacerbate pain a lot - I suffered from endometriosis and just cutting out the very occasional ham sandwich (which was all the meat I had ever eaten) reduced pain by 50%.
Alcohol is inflammatory. Even a small amount of beer (like the odd half pint) is highly inflammatory and I notice produces a flare up the next day. White wine is inflammatory to a lesser extent than beer - ie I can drink a few glasses in an evening and be OK but if I repeat the next evening or two, then I get a flare up. Red wine contains anti inflammatories which cancels out the inflammatory effect of the alcohol.
Obesity increases inflammation in the body - to quite a high degree. The worst possible thing is smoking.
In any case, all these inflammatory foods are bad for you and are linked to serious health conditions like heart disease and cancer. You are better off without them if you can manage. I am not sure about pastry and cake and biscuits. I don't eat pastry as it is so fattening but have the occasional bit of cake. I also steer clear of biscuits because of weight problems. They are best avoided if possible.
Exercise will reduce inflammation in the body - I have found it is directly proportional to flare ups and symptoms and blood readings for inflammation.
I hope this helps.
Sugar tends to be inflammatory too. I find eating chocolate makes me unwell the following day.
