I would have thought if you were going to get over the side effects it would have happened by now. I think you need to speak with your rheumy and explain how it is affecting you. I was on mtx for 18 months, tablets first then injections which didn't make any difference to how ill I felt each week, even when Folic acid went up to 10mg six days a week. In the end I just told them I couldn't take it any more as I didn't want to live feeling so ill every week from it, and they agreed to let me stop it, even though it worked well for me. Hopefully you have a sympathetic rheumy who will understand and try you on something different. Good luck.

I think you need to speak to the Rheum nurse and see if you can get an appt with the consultant. If you have been on it that long and are no longer tolerating it then they need to put you on another drug. It will probably be Lefludomide. As that’s what they did to me. I couldn’t tolerate that either. After they have gone through those drugs you will then be like I was a candidate for a biological treatment which may suit you much better. Have a chat with them but make your point very strongly. It’s easy for them to brush you aside. I rang my helpline quite a few times as I was in agony with my joints. They got me in to see a locum consultant who straight away took me off the drugs and recommended me for biologicals. You shouldn’t have to put up with those side effects. Hope you get sorted x

Same thing happened to me was on it first by tablet then injection but had to stop as I felt ill for four days. Got put on Leflunomide same thing happened after two years. Not sure if I should have taken the wash out as I still not good after four months stopping it.
