Thanks for the link. Of course, there's not yet enough evidence to be sure, but it's nice to think that methotrexate may have a nice side effect.
Nice to have some possible benefits! Especially as I am more scared of dementia than just about anything else having had 2 parents in law suffer from it.
I also read a while back that there was a similar possible benefit with breast cancer, with one study showing that women on MTX had lower risk. Only one study of course, but every little bit of positive news helps.
In the comment section in the article the first commentor seems to think methotrexate is an over the counter drug that is easy to get hold of. My gp is very strict handing the drug out.
That's interesting and positive. Notice yet again no distinction in headline between arthritis and RD, as an auto immune disease which can strike at any age. People still don't get it, do they ? I know we all get fed up with the 2 being constantly linked.
I've just heard Dr Chris say the same thing on This Morning and he specifically said mtx is taken for Rheumatoid arthritis, not osteo. Good man! I am really scared of getting alzheimer's too, so if this is true I don't care how sick the mtx makes me feel, I'll take it for ever!
Interesting! There are side effects with pretty much all drugs.
An interesting study but inconclusive, incomplete and unproven as yet. It would be amazing to get such a wonderful side-effect but I'll just watch and listen. Cynical? Me?
