I have chinese meals fairly regularly.....I wonder what the nurse was concerned about? I wouldn't eat one of those serve yourself buffets (of whatever nationality of food) where the food sits around for hours, but freshly cooked food shouldn't pose problems.
They can be quite heavy on salt and mono sodium glutamate, so not something to eat every week, but for a special occasion.
It will be interesting if anyone else has ever been told similar - was there anything else your nurse told you to avoid?
Hi I have had plenty of Chinese take aways, I am on the same meds as you and more. I have never had a problem, we are all different so you are wise to be cautious. Hopefully there will be plenty of choice on the menu, enjoy your evening and congratulations to your son 😊
Well, I've been on MTX 8 years & have been on SSZ both initiated by different Specialists & never been told to avoid Chinese, we enjoy one every so often, probably 4 or 5 times a year. I could understand if it was Japanese sashimi or sushi with the raw fish & cold rice issue & we're careful about storing rice once it's cooked but that's all.
Unless there's a specific reason you were told you shouldn't eat Chinese I'd enjoy your day out seeing your son receiving his award & your meal afterwards, being more than 9 months since you've had one I'm sure you will!
I’ve just google it and it does say avoid spicy foods on foods to avoid but I’m out tomorrow and pills due on Friday so maybe it’s the time scale but I’m going ask
Maybe that's to avoid irritation to the stomach if on oral MTX or if nausea is a problem? I know bland, less tasty food helps when you have nausea so maybe that's what she meant? Either way you have choices, there are lots of Chinese dishes that aren't spicy, even Chinese curry has a tendency to be quite mild.
I bet that's what she meant. I don't think if it is it's reason enough to give up Chinese if your stomach is ok! Pleased your folic acid increase helped.
I ve never heard that before, did she say why? Love chinese food.
I don’t no she said to avoid spicy food as not good with my methotrexate will ask her more in few weeks when see her next.Ive not had any since started not eat all time only maybe once month etc lol
I'm always very careful with rice even when cooking myself. Gets a good soak and rinse, cooked in rice cooker. Any left over goes in the dog! Pretty sure the rice will be fine, and the rest.
Like everyone else, ive never been told that regarding meds. Makes sense if tummy problems though. For one meal and careful choosing im sure you will enjoy it and be om. What a lovely occassion to look forward to. Have a smashing time and be proud of your son.
Its odd but i think she may have meant the soy sauce which is normally fermented with wheat and many of us aught to be or are GF. Wheat used to sets of a flare for me before i got diagnosed and the drugs. Kikamon doesnt but restaurant dont use it. Xx
I’ve heard of GF I no one of girls at work used to say her health had improved since she cut out wheat but it’s hard to work out.I guess in time u can be tested for foods to help with our symptoms but its a waiting and watching what eat you eat game.
