Which pen do you use if you have fat fingers which won't bend? 🖋

Hi peeps🙂

I hope this finds you as well as can be😊

I have a really poor grip - can't clench a fist. I am looking for an ergonomically comfortable, fat black pen to buy. My father-in-law also needs one because after his stroke, a couple of years back, he has little use of his thumb and first two fingers of his right-hand. I've bought him a Stabilo Easy Start pen before (which he's now lost 😏but they all come with blue ink. I could buy another one of these, but I'd have to buy black ink to....which is simply annoying 😠The USA seem to have a better range, but I am in the UK. If you have any suggestions, could you send me the link (if that's possible) please. Thank you 😊

It can be a problem I know. I have this pen, somewhere! completecareshop.co.uk/hous... I've misplaced it but I didn’t actually use it so much with it being black ink. My all time favourite was a Bic my h bought me when we lived in Spain but I can't get refills so it's pointless giving you a link to that one. It was great because it was both thicker & grippy.

I've also tried the grips that you push over a normal pen or pencil, but they may not be fat enough. Anyhow they’re these completecareshop.co.uk/paed...

There's another I’ve had but I can't find a link to it & blowed if I can remember were it came from. I'll have another look & if I find it I’ll send it.

Can't guarantee the update will be as humorous! I’ve had a cursory look but no joy yet. I'll be back.

I’d just buy the one that you know is right for you and buy the extra black ink. Those that people suggest on here might not be right for you and you’ll spend more in the long run 😊

Thanks...might end up doing that, but they're quite expensive if you're having to buy the refills too. I wonder why they don't offer them in black 🤷‍♀️

You could always get some pipe insulation and wrap it round any pen you like. I did that when first diagnosed as not much options 😊

Could a grip aid help? In primary school we have a rubber accessory that goes on the pen like a thick triangle rubber

Thanks for your suggestion. As I too work in a school, I've tried all of our weird and wonderful aids to no avail - good call though 😊

I have started to use berol paper mate italic pen. Fat like a felt tip to use and gives you fancy writing even when you don’t want it!

Good luck with your search card season is coming and Christmas stamps are already out. 🎄

Thanks for your top tip! We actually use Berol handwriting pen at school, but not the italic one. Christmas card writing is what made me pursue this quest to be honest. ✍🌲

It is the green one slightly fatter than the red ones and have really helped me when my hand was very stiff 🌼

Due to early osteoarthritis followed by rheumatoid arthritis my fingers are a total mess with lumps, bumps and fingers going different ways and they’re always stiff

I don’t try to write any more but use the microphone on my phone or i pad to dictate and if necessary print things out. The more you use it the more accurate it becomes.

I type Christmas messages and print them on large address labels, sticking one on each card . I have the template for these messages on my computer and I update the message each Christmas. I also print out address labels for the envelopes. It takes much of the stress away.

I can scrawl my name but use a fat pen sold in our local shop - I don’t know what I’ll do if they change supplier - it also has a rubber end for texting!!

Sounds like you're well organised! Well done for being so tech-wise. 😇 When dictating, it is hilarious sometimes 🤣

It’s taken me a while but I’m doing an OU degree and they were very helpful in starting me off 3 years ago.

I still laugh about giving up work as I couldn’t write the reports I had to do (huge ones) and thinking that I wouldn’t have a problem writing essays!
