This is the he 3rd or4th time - acute pain developing suddenly over about 3 or 4 hours, to a point where Im unable to walk or weight bear at all. Ive had an MRI after the previous attack - no cause found. This time I had just arrived on holiday and have been confined to the hotel room for 2 days! I’m seropositive for RA, on M/X. Usually hands, wrists , but very occasionally a big joint. Annoying its now when the sun is dhining outside! Does anyone else have this? I

Thanks Amy

Yes i have just before diagnosis, nothing on x ray, thought i d broken someting or osteo, no! Couldn't walk, bear weight, just like you. Bizarre thing is a week later right as rain, no probs since, on Mtx, other hip aches all the time tho. Mainly hands wrists like you. What a shame it happened on your holiday. I still don't know if it's classed as a flare? Hope it stops soon

Thanks Karena, yours sounds like mine! Makes you feel you’re going a bit bonkers whenthere was no injury, it just starts suddenly and a week later its fine. Quite difficult to explain to other people.

Stay well.

Absolutely, makes it look like you're putting it on, if only lol😄

Hope you have anti-inflammatoires with you? If not, can you ask the hotel to find a local doctor to see if you can get a steroid shot, or a few days worth of prednisone?

Thanks helixhelix. Your posts are always helpful. I have some Naproxen with me thanks, not steroids. But the hotel have been very helpful . Have lent me a crutch!

Was supposed to be a little walking break ......,..!

Thanks. Am on my feet again now - only today - hoping no other joint joins the partybefore I get home!

It could be trochanter bursitis. I suffer with that. I currently have it now and this flare has lasted since before Christmas.

Had very similar experience and was diagnosed with bursitislike Tracey63anne. Steroid injection sorted it for me. Hope rest of holiday goes well

I had exactly the same prior to diagnosis, starting with the shoulders, then elbows, wrists, hips, knees and even my jaw! In all cases, it was a very rapid onset, excruciating pain, and unable to move the joint at all, and then back to normal within a couple of days or so. Since I've been on meds, it happens rarely, and if I feel the signs, I find a couple of days of Naproxen seems to reduce the severity of the flare. If it's going to happen, it's usually at the most inconvenient time possible, typically! Good luck, and I hope you enjoy the rest of your holiday x

Hi there I have AS and one of my worse symptoms was trochanteric bursitis bilaterally . I had a scan to confirm it as I was having steroid injections every four or five months just to keep me working . The humeria has helped with the pain and stiffness especially on my hip joints they still hurt to touch but I'm able to sit down and get up without my pelvis locking now . Ask your gp for a scan not MRI just handheld one . Hope that helps 🤗

Thanks for your reply. Mine is just occasional in the hip - it just picks the wrong occasion (though Im not sure what the right time would be!)

I had the same problem and nothing on xray, CT, MRI. In frustration I went to a new orthopedic doctor who sent me for an MRI but told me where to go for "they have a radiologist that specializes in musculoskeletal issues". Bingo!! Now I learned a new word "enthesitis" and it was seen in all the joints I have been complaining....hips, wrist, ankles. It's a hallmark of RA and explains why as I tried to walk or even dice vegetables, the pain and stiffness would start. Methotrexate started helping but I couldn't tolerate it. So far only Prednisone helps, but when u first start it takes a few days to start seeing relief, and I seem to become tolerant and then need a dose increase (now on 10mg alternating with 15mg). They are starting me on Orencia, but waiting insurance approval.

I hope this info helps. Feel better :)

"Enthesitis is inflammation of the entheses, the sites where tendons or ligaments insert into the bone."

Thanks for replying. Sounds like me, but I am tolerating MTX. Perhaps need to add something else. Luckily have appt for annual review the day after my holiday. I am a bit better thanks .
