Crohn's disease but want to start a gym
Hi Shrl, I have had Crohn's for nearly 5 years now and was diagnosed with related RA about 18 months ago. I'm on humira and methotrexate injections, I was on the tablets but have had a much better response to the jabs. My RA is mainly in my ankles and knees and the tissue around them as well as the joints themselves but tends to move it's severity from one joint to another for no obvious reason, apparently this is quite 'normal'. I do stretching exercises daily and since the injections kicked in I'm back to riding my bike as much as possible. My rheumy is happy that I'm doing this and is arranging for me to see the physio at the hospital to make sure I'm doing the best exercise for my condition. I think the general feeling is to do whatever exercise you comfortably can without overdoing it, keep everything supple for as long as you can. They're both horrible things to live with but with a positive attitude and the right drugs life's still good. Enjoy yourself at the gym.
I agree with sutbut, have had a similar response from my Rheumy and feel so much better when I’m able to exercise regularly. My knees can get pretty sore with running, heavy walking etc but I find I’m always able to do reformer pilates and most yoga exercises no matter how bad I might be feeling and therefore feel psychologically as well as physically stronger for doing so. Good luck to both of you, rotten diseases both are but clearly we’re all doing ok atm x
Thanks ! It's uncomfortable illness one min I'm fine and then I full with pain but I think you have to think positive and fight it so I'm definitely going back and getting my life back again, because if I give up depression will start kicking in and the illness is after winning, thanks again
