Round two: Here it comes again - NRAS
Round two
Look at that snow. It looks quite slippery. Doesn't your city de ice the streets?
Hi Cherub. That funny noise is a lot of hollow laughter. Council services have been cut to the bone here. Social care, things like snow clearing, road mending, emptying rubbish bins, library services etc are grossly underfunded. Unless you live on a main road the snow will not be cleared.

Same here in west coast off Scotland,I live in a side Road and it hadn't been gritted for weeks, so I phoned and complained and it was gritted the next day xxx
yer I know but you cant get around the place for tempory traffic lights and holes in roads but its not me I worry about its the elderly this village is full of them and if we suffer then what about them ?? xx
That's nuts. One would think keeping the roads clear & empting garbage cans would be a prioriety. Isn't this considered a health issue where you live?
Apparently not. Our domestic rubbish is emptied every two weeks but some councils are talking about three weekly collections. It's bonkers and quite probably a health hazard. I shall stop now as I get quite heated about it.
lol gnarli you go go and keep going well we had our car on the road and our neighbours car rolled into it as they left handbrake off so we decided to do a drive as our other neighbours told us its our fault it got hit being on road so we did drive all by our self then got a complaint from some neighbour to the council saying we unlawfully built some think by our house you cant win all sorted now we thought it got backing from councilors and the neighbours got told do one in a word lets just say they not on our xmas card list lol
not our street as it narrow at top with cars parked either side its a full sheet if ice all cars just slide on it xx
no they don't come up our street cos there cars parked on either side of road and they say its not a bus route so anyone in our houses don't matter as much as I'm uneasy on my feet its the elderly I feel for bet Christmas is lovely in your part of the world hun
Correct but their quick enough to take the council tax off, same with turning street lights off to save money. , I used to work for Argyll and Bute council before I retired medically, and I know they keep millions in a safe fund then plead poverty that they've no money
Turning off the street lights at night??? Are you serious? Someone had mentioned that before, but I though she was kidding.
Isn't the UK a 1st world country? I can understand not de iceing side streets to save money.....but turning off the street lights at night? Does that not sound absurd to you?
No! We are campaigning to get them turned off in our village.... waste of money, and apparently not safer as the difference between the lit up bits and the shadows makes it easier for people to hide unnoticed. If everything is dark (and anyway it's rarely truly dark) then your eyes adjust and you can see what's ahead of you fine. People round here who run, walk dogs etc etc after dark have head torches anyway.
It's nice to hear a positive view on the street light issue. We have a small beach front home on Qualium beach, and once you turn off the Island highway, it is dark as there are no street lights on the side roads. I must admit it is beautiful seeing the bright stars and hearing the Salish sea crash on the beach.
So I guess lights off in a small cozy beachtown is nice, but not in a city for me!
how lovely a beach front house I'm jealous so much and I bet it makes our houses look like dolls houses
Nah, this beach front property was bought in 1946, for an outrageous price of $ 5k at the time.. Everyone thought this was an outrageous price at the time as it is on Vancouver Island, not the mainland.
One evening as I was sitting in the yard, looking at the stars & ocean, I heard a load growl & snort. OMG!! It was a 250 pound sea lion, just 5feet away from me, on our front yard!! I didn't even see it, as there was no light. lol I was thankful that sea lions can't move fast once they are on land.
It's about saving the environment not costs of the power to them. It's silly to have overhead lights on a motorway when cars have headlights on. I live in the warmer South East and it's a great idea as less light polution and global warming benefit's. As for de icing they do clear main roads and bus routes but we don't get snow on a regular basis unlike Germany or Finland, we get just a few days some years so can we afford to spend millions for a few days the answer is propably not. In Scotland where the weather is worse it will be different but even then its generally not extreme weather problems more like difficult.
Britain is slowly becoming the laughing stock of the world
No, Trump's vision of America and the rest of the world is the laughing stock. lol
I just can't imagine street lights off on your Freeways & Highways (motorways?) is very dangerous.
and a health and safety risk some people cant drive safe with lights on so what would they be like with lights off
I don't find motorway lights helpful. It would be one thing if the whole motorway was lit but your eyes need to adjust when driving away from them. I have night vision difficulties, headlights splay out like stars & going from a coloured sodium lit area to suddenly dark I find worse, I'd rather not have them at all.
