Can medicine side effects start even after being on the drugs for a long time?

Hey everyone

I am having to rethink what I thought was a quick bout of gastro enteritis. I feel constantly nauseous but no vomiting. Dry heaves in the morning and dry mouth. Even when I looked at my mtx last week I felt sick! But this doesn’t seem to correlate with when I take it. What I don’t understand is I’ve been on this stuff for over a year. Maybe it’s totally unrelated. Aarrggjhhh etc.

Hi I’ve been on mtx for many years also hydroxychloroquine plus Bloodpressure tabs. & the usual anti inflammatory tablets etc.

I find I do feel sick in the mornings & if I get hungry.

I always take the mtx in an evening with cornflakes or a banana. In a morning the sickness goes off if I eat my breakfast melon . I have problems with different types of mtx so I always try to have the same make .I did have a bout of norovirus a few months ago ,went to Gp who suggested not to to have mtx for two weeks. Have you tried ginger biscuits etc.

Maybe it's because you have had nausea from feeling poorly that you can't bear the thought of Mtx?

Find out why you've started to be nauseated... usual cause? Gastritis virus pregnancy ? If the last one you would stop mtx!

you dont usually get 'sickness' if you inject mtx - its not really san injection its a pen - very easy and painless xx

I was on MTX tablets for nearly two years with no problems, and then got mouth ulcers... happily as soon as I switched to injections they went away.

So yes, things can take time to develop.

I’ve been wondering this too...! I’ve been taking MTX for around five years and for the last two Fridays, after taking it, I’ve felt sick too 🤢

I still get nauseous from methotrexate even after switching to jabs -it's less that the tablets but still a problem, hits 5 hours after jab and most of next day. I use anti nausea pills from GP. I reduced methotrexate dose but it has helped me so much that I'm coping with the side effects. M x

Was the same fine for 2 years on methotrexate then like you couldn't look at it without feeling ill so stopped it. Leflunomide was the same 2 years ok then fatigue and night and day sweats. Stopped it 8 weeks ago and night sweats have stopped and fatigue so much better. Some people can take these drugs for years with no problem but everyone different.
