Not a total. I had bilateral partial replacements done on same day. One knee fine, the other not so great.

Plenty of my friends have had total, and all have been fine.

Good luck .. I'm heading towards TKR I think but I've got very fit so the muscles are working well at the moment to support the knee. xx

Two tears ago I had total knee replacements in both knees, at the same time. It was hard work recovering but I’ve had no significant problems with them?

I was 48 at time of surgery.

I am 43 and have grade 4 in both knees. No tkr for me yet as my rheumy said I have to be old and grey for tkr. I have the grey down, just need the old to go with it I guess. I am going to ask again in a few months to see if his outlook has changed on my tkr requests.

I had a TKR in Jan 2014, and the second one done in March 2015, both under epidural. I would say the most important thing is to do all the exercises given to you by the physios afterwards, as you need to get the joint moving to achieve the flexion a normal knee has. You won't want to do it, because it hurts!!! But be prepared for 5-6 weeks of pain and discomfort post op as you push through and are able to look forward to pain free knees. One of the things I found helpful was swimming, and the pool I found had a really warm whirlpool/ spa, and I sat in that for ages, exercising and 'loosening' the knee. They never feel like 'real' knees - you can't kneel on them, for example. But they don't hurt, and that's worth those few weeks of discomfort as you finish what the surgeon started. Good luck with it!

45 for me. Couldn’t tell you what grade it was, but it was pretty obvious that I couldn’t keep going on it as it was.

No problems with it at all so far.

I was 48 when I had my left TKR. It had been 'attacked' from the beginning when I was 19. I had been through a period of being very uncontrolled (many joints included) and using a mobility scooter to get around. Between having the knee done and Abatacept working for me things have greatly improved. Farm

59 and had both TKR within 4 months . Grab it with both hands, it's not your age to consider it's the pain you're in , eliminate the source asap. Now it's 4 years on and when my Psa flares it's two less joints to moan about 😂

Well he did say last time I saw him in August after my arthroscopy on right knee that it was grade 4 in knee I can’t go on like this anymore 🤦🏻‍♀️x

I am 65 and been told I need this op. Have had fluid drained and steroid jab and have to make decision by end of year whether to go ahead. Still wavering on that!

He told me I needed it done when I was 55 but too young I’m 60 next wes day after I see my consultant x

Two partials, two conversions to full, with complete synovectomy on right past Feb. Four major knee operations in four years. They still hurt, swell, ache, but my RA is not under control at all and they do occasionally have have great days . I am 58 and just officially diagnosed last month when I changed Rheumatologists. I am on Plaquenil now, but adding MTX is being bandied about. Hang in there!
