Hi Steve and welcome! Absolutely no need to apologise it’s bl@@dy tough having this blasted condition! I think you’re very brave in admitting to your boss you’re having problems and really hope you get the support and understanding you deserve. I work too and my job is getting even more demanding and I’m struggling, it’s hard for us to admit sometimes, I want to stay working but this has been a bad week. Good luck and let us know how you get on 😊
HAve you spoken to your boss about moving other stuff that is not so heavy or move to a smaller lorry. Does your lorry have automatic transmission which might help you when your driving. Does your wife get any help from DWP and if so could you use the money to get some help in the home. I am so sorry your in this position, this disease is the pits. I know as i haven't worked since 2009. Hugs to you and your wife.xxx
Hi Steve and welcome - no apology need here you say what you need to and we do our best to support!
Two things spring to mind - are you getting any kind of carer’s allowance? And have you considered applying for PIP, I’m not sure that you would qualify for it but it might be worth it.
Also ask to have your VitD levels checked if you’ve not had them done lately. I take a supplement October through to April. I had my folic acid and B levels checked in July because of fatigue creeping in. All was within normal but rheumy decided to up my folic acid from 5mg once a week to 5mg twice a week and it’s made heck of a difference. So worth looking at these as well.
You have managed for 6 years already as a HGV 1 driver dealing with cold temperatures. You need a medal to cope that long. The doctors put you on better meds now than they did 30 years ago. Can your boss put you on some lighter work maybe ot in the warehouse. Do you have a fork lift licence ? Is cutting your hours down an option ? Could working tax credits top you up ? I realise you have the added worry of looking after your wife but sort yourself first then the rest will follow. Take care xxxx
Hi Steve, I think you are brilliant, doing what you are. I hope your boss can help you out. Have you ever thought about trying to get some help with looking after your dear wife? You carry such a heavy burden, you deserve some. All the very best and keep in touch.
