Humira question

Have any of you guys dealt with swelling and or weight gain while on humira. I'm on it and mtx together for my Uveitis. And my weight is definitely up. I get it down a few lbs and then it turns around and bounces right back. I have an appointment next week with my doctors and will be talking to them about it as well.

I really hate to hear of people having trouble while on humira. I wish the doctors would do a better job of figuring things out before prescribing that stuff.

Are you sure that your TnF alphas are out of whack for the humira to treat? Have you had your interleukin levels checked? Like interleukin 1, 6, 10, 18, how about t-cell counts relating to infection?

Just throwing it out there as there are more than one thing that causes inflammation. Tnf is just one of them.

What are your CRP levels? Anything more than 3mg/L of blood is considered very high.

I had a hematologist tell me that my iterleukin 6 would be high because my crp was really high. In Canada they do not check interleukin levels without government approval as they have to send samples to the mayo clinic in the USA.

Meds.

Anakinra works on the cytokine interleukin 1, Actemra works on cytokine interleukin 6, enbrel, humira, cymzia, simponi, remicade are all anti tnf alpha.

Try and find out what is causing your Uevitis and if the anti tnf is actually the med you require.

I have heard that interleukin 1 can also cause eye issues.

Would not hurt to question you doctor and see what else might help you.

My doc is the best. We have tested for more than 175 different things. My blood work is perfect. They have exhausted all methods of finding my reason for Uveitis. Some people never find a root cause for it. Unfortunately and so far I am one of those people.

He (my doctor) and I have discussed in length our options. The next thing is a rejection med because my options are getting less and less with each med that isn't working. I also have to be extremely careful because I can't take regular anti inflammatory meds.

I am on humira for scleritis. I have had no trouble with weight gain on humira but did when on prednisolone too.

I'm off all Prednisone and have been for a few months. And ironically I didn't gain but five lbs when on it. And I've been on and off it for five years now. Wish that was the answer. But unfortunately not.
