I am darling as i don't have anything in me to do anything. My advice to anyone who gets a chest infection or think they have one is to go to their dr and get it sorted out asap. I tried, but the useless dr i saw didn't listen to me.xxxx

If you are inclined that way, the Gellert thermal baths are great for a restorative soak in a stunning location (I think you need to take a swimming costume now) but be careful of the massages as can be rather ferocious!

Thanks HH.

We are on Gellert Hill so they’re definitely on the to do list. Massage, not so much!

Thanks NMHs and I’m going to take all things easy.

I had booked this holiday for 6 July but Mum passed away that week so I had to rearrange.

Have a wonderful time !

Just to say ( back from Budapest Tues)

Gellert baths was SO disappointing- grimy , quite institutional & full of tourists. They will not give you another towel if it gets wet which it will.

The Rudas baths however were recommended by our hotel manager ( dating from 1550 ) & the website looks good. They also do medical treatments . Wished I'd gone there so perhaps a bit of research might be useful . Sorry I know this is not trip advisor but hate you to be disappointed .

Super friendly people as can be found on this site ! 😊

Eiram50 in reply toMAHGS

Thanks MAHGS, that’s really good to know! I think some research is the way to go.

Generally speaking, how did you find it? How was the food? Is it reasonable in terms of cost etc?

Marie

MAHGS in reply toEiram50

So reasonable in comparison to UK - I always use a currency convertor app on phone to work out costs but roughly 1000F is £3 approx .

If you are into history there is the Buda Castle on the Buda side which can be accessed by funicular .

Can recommend the Terror Museum

showing the struggles of German occupation & then by the Communists . Bring water 💦 as it is SO hot & perhaps get there early ( I did not ! 😬) i also used the Hop on hop off bus to get around - got a 4 day ticket which means less walking .

Also went on the boat trip 😁

It was dry but very cold when we were there - so bring warm clothing just in case .

We had a fab time , people were so polite & such a clean city. You will enjoy it tremendously ! Ps cakes were

'delish 'x 😋

Can recommend 'Varosliget' cafe by the ice rink & near the Millenary Monument- delicious cakes . Lunch approx £9-£10 excl service & drinks . 😄

Fab! Thank you so much. Off to the airport shortly- so happy to be going and kids are terribly excited !

Just to say check age entry for baths .

We went on a Sunday & children were there yet there was a sign saying no child under 14 but that may have been for a treatment. So double check with your hotel or website.

Safe travels m x😀

What a shame, the Gellert baths were fantastic when I was there and no other tourists - but I guess it was a few years ago so things do change!

Really enjoyed it when we went. Didn't do the baths as not really our thing but sight seeing fantastic. We always get one of the hop on hop off buses wherever we go. Go round once, then see what looks interesting and go back on the next circuit and hop off😃. One thing about Budapest is all the street and train signs are in their language (obviously lol) which is difficult to work out and not many locals speak English (again, we shouldn't expect they do!). So navigating a big city like this is difficult for the unwary. We were lucky, friend we went with is Hungarian. And we still got lost a couple of times🤣.

Oh and you will come back at least half a stone heavier as the restaurants are fantastic and huge portions

I can’t think of anyone more deserving of a LOT of joy. I hope you’re having an absolutely amazing time. Look forward to hearing from you when you get home. :) x
