I know this may seem like a daft question but how do any of you approach having to call into work sick? Flaring at the minute, bad pain in hand, arm, left knee and back. Couldn't go in today and I know I won't be fit for tomorrow but I'm already so anxious about letting them know in the morning!!

Remember your health must come first otherwise you will suffer for overdoing it . If you still feel crap in the morning try and speak to your gp if it’s anything like mine they will cover you with a sick note so try not to stress xxx
Hi sazlav83 I used to hate having to ring in sick. I was made to feel like a criminal, then tbere was the guilt trip about others having to cover my job role in my absence etc. They always managed to find an excuse to ring me about something during the day.
But what really got me was "have you got an appointment at the doctors or when are you seeing the doctor ?"
I didnt need to see a doctor I knew what was wrong I needed rest and pain killers but no- one seemed to understand that.Unless I was going to see a doc then there was nothing wrong in their eyes. If I went to the doc every time I suffered an ache or pain I would be permanently camped out in the surgery.
So yes I can understand your reluctance to ring them.I dont have a magic solution I just used to work myself up to biting the bullet and picking up the phone and making the call.By then blood pressure and stress levels were thru the roof.
Have you told your work about your condition/s already? I would say it's worth doing because they can then give reasonable adjustments for you (like letting you wear more comfy shoes, letting you sit down, giving you a better chair, giving more flexible hours, etc).
For now though, you need to put your health first and just explain that you aren't well enough to come in. Same as you would do if you had food poisoning or anything else.
If they get fussy then you can provide medical evidence like your diagnosis or a doctors note afterwards when you're back in.
You are legitimately unwell. You should be giving your body time to heal. Nothing to worry or feel guilty over.
Work does know about my RA, but I think knowing and understanding are 2 different things! I actually happened to be at the docs this morning anyway for bloods and the nurse got me in to see the doc as she could see my agony. She gave me some arcoxia 90mg to try and shift it.
It's really hard to try and express over the phone just how sorry you are and how frustrating it is you can't make work isn't it? I still have that fear of not being believed!!
It's a pity it's still not acceptable for your mammy to write you a note!! 😂🙈
Oh I feel for u ! I also feel like a criminal when phoning in sick - like a criminal - as tho I have let everyone down - too much pressure not enough understanding
