They say its in my head: I have random pain in joints... - NRAS
They say its in my head
Hi Jck370,
I don't want to worry you but just before my very first flare and the onset of my RA I had random pain in a joint and swelling. It would stay for a few days and then disappear to return in another joint a few days/weeks later. Now, this did happen during pregnancy and I assume from your username this perhaps won't be a problem for you. My doctor told me all would be fine and more or less said it was in my head. It wasn't and it was painful.
All I'm saying really is that if it continues go back to your doctor. It could be one of many things but even if it's an intolerance to gluten it's best not to ignore your body for too long.
Best wishes,
Legs X
Have you had the coelliac blood test ?
This was one of the tests I had before they diagnosed RA in me..
Hi and welcome. We are not medically trained so could not give advice but I would agree with Lindalegs in that you should continue to see your GP each time the painful joints occur. Have you ever had blood tests to see what it might be? I don't want to worry you but I had episodes of painful joints over 20 years ago and a blood test showed a raised rheumatoid factor for which only painkillers were offered. The symptoms settled down again until last year when it all escalated. There could be so many reasons for your pain, rheumatoid being just one, so try not to panic. If you feel going gluten free is helping that's brilliant and I'm thrilled for you. Wishing you better

I started very similarly to you how you have described. I now have Rheumatoid arthritis and palendromic rheumatism. Do go back to gp
I have random pains in several places,I've mentioned it to RA people & GP & basically I was ignored!!!
Back when I was in my 50's my GP told me I should "expect aches & pains at your age"! & told me to take an Aspirin!
Luckily I knew a RA research doctor who got me an appointment with acRheumatology Professor, & the rest is history & here I am on Rituximab!
So at least get some blood tests done...you may have to stand your ground, but they are your aches & pains & you know if you need some help,
As everyone else has said, just keep going back to the GP every time you experience these painful joints. If they start to see a pattern, and realise that is not just a one off, hopefully they'll start to do some investigation into what's causing your pain, and you'll get some relief soon. There's nothing worse than feeling as though you're not being listened to. All the best. Mhairi
I'll echo what the others said - go back to GP and insist on being taken seriously. I had to do that for over a year and was eventually sent to a rheumatologist, where after thorough investigations I was diagnosed with sero positive RA.
I was started on Sulphasalazine and then methotrexate but my RA is under control and I lead a normal and very active life!
Best wishes

Try to get a blood test Jck, when you have the pain. Palindromic Arthritis starts like that.....agony ...... I had no swelling, but by the time you get to see a doctor symptoms have disappeared. Could of course be just muscle strain!
I'm sure if you explain to your practice nurse she will give you the BT form & that could lead on to a rheumatology consult & make things clearer.
I was very lucky that I got a blood test early many years ago....but only because I had a friend who was doing RA research who recommended a Professor & he immediately (after tests of course) diagnosed PA,& I started the correct treatment for me at once.
I am now on Biologics, , but have no seriously damaged joints & very rarely have much pain these days.
When I read here how many people have to wait years to get a primary rheumatology consult .....I realise how lucky I was.
So try to get a blood test .
