MTX side effect?

5 weeks into MTX combined with SFZ, am noticing that every 3rd day without fail after taking the MTX I have a swollen throat, which goes down by the 4th day. I have been given Folic acid to alleviate this & it has lessened the swelling (lost my voice the first two weeks) but nevertheless, still happens on a Wednesday evening after my Sunday evening does. Anyone else have the same ? Thanks muchly. X

Hi - I take my mtx (by injection - 20mg) Monday evening and 4 tablets (2 morning and 2 evening) everyday. I was told take folic acid from Thursday right round to (and including) Sunday. This seems fine for me.

* sulfasalazine tablets daily I meant 😊

You take 20mg Mtx injection , weekly and then 20 mg each day orally? Seems hugely high?

😫Noooo.....just the weekly injection 😊missed out a bit - sulfasalazine tablets daily lol😂

I haven't had this at (so far) taken my fourth dose this morning . I take 2 tablets after breakfast and two after dinner tonight. Then folic acid on Mondays . So far so good

My RA nurse upped my FA to six a week, this stopped the mouth ulcers but still get this wierd throat. She said the MTX was attacking the lymph glands. I go to the hospital Tues so will tell them. Yet I am beginning to feel better in myself, more mobile & fingers & wrists while still painful are not so swollen x

Maybe ask if you can try the mtx injection - metoject.
