I have woken this morning and my legs feel like lead weights, walking is really hard even with my crutches and everything feel such a drain on my energy levels. Work has been hard I have a sedentary job but even this has been difficult to do today. I have no pain or swelling is this a normal part of RA?

Hi Smerdon 74

I think this is absolutley normal i experience the same, the most frustrating part for me is you feel like you can walk particularly on a good day and then when you do after so long you just feel like your back were you started and this then becomes a knock on affect so after even a short walk it knocks you back days, I do find though using my crutches/walking stick really does help.

sorry i couldnt be more helpful

Thank you, I am using my crutches without them I don't think I would go anywhere, I'm persevering but it gets you down 😔

Hi Smerdon74. I'm having the same problem at the moment. Feeling so very much better in the dry heat here on holiday I've been doing more walking than usual and, guess what, feeling it this morning. Feet and ankles swollen, knees and hips sore, hands creaky and doing my famous sloth impression. As my hands and wrists are weaker and tender crutches aren't an option so it's the "Chariot of Wrath" wheelchair if I want/need to go out. Hugely embarrassing. I don't know how you manage to work full time and sincerely hope you have a drawer full of medals. This rotten disease brings so many and varied symptoms seemingly tailor-made for each of us but this leaden fatigue is a common part of it. If you are really worried perhaps a call to your rheumy help-line would be a good idea. Huge hugs

Hi Gnarli, You are quite right it is a rotten disease and whatever we choose to do we always seem to get penalised one way or another if only for trying to lead a somewhat normal life, I suppose i am fortunate my job used to be very demanding i used to operate tall cranes up to 3 years ago now because i have a very understanding boss i spend my working day behind a desk otherwise i would have had to stop work although that can be quite demanding but with all the support i get it really helps so my point is whatever the kind of day your having theres always someone there to help if its just to talk to which i have found this forum to be a fantastic way of unloading and there seems to be a lot of people out there with a good listening ear and easy to relate too.

Good luck

Hi Phil. I hope your drawer has its share of medals too! It's a case of heads they win, tails you lose with this it seems. Grrr

Yes always the way, I suppose after 32 years with the same company they should be able to show some compassion and understanding which they do by the way and really its helping to give me some independance.

Cheers
