Some much needed exercise....

After almost 3 wks of barely sleeping,a couple of tumbles/falls,with the last two being on fri,I decided yesterday afternoon that I could either lie in bed seizing up again,or ask someone to come with me to the park over the road for half hour - I needed a walk to try and ease my joints/muscles,but had taken so many meds to try and reduce the pain that I didn't feel safe going out alone - so armed with the pup,and my partner,we hobbled off over the road, and even though I barely moved(I mainly threw the ball while he did the running around with her) the movement and fresh air did me the world of good - I'm still in pain today, which is to be expected from the falls, but at least I don't have to double my meds today๐Ÿ˜Š I was absolutely knackered by the time I was helped home, but just having a good old belly laugh watching Terry and the pup (off her lead for first time in public) going nuts for that length of time was the best thing for me - I've also enclosed a pic which is a still from the video of her running before she dive-bombed terry(fancy letting her know where the treats where, and then kneeling on the ground before calling her๐Ÿ˜‚) seriously,if ever there was an advert for doggy hair products, then I'm sure she'd be in it๐Ÿ˜.

Hope the pic brings a smile to a few people for today.

Aw so sweet! Glad you feel a bit better.

I've just been lying on a rug amongst tall grasses in a Meadow. You should have seen me getting down on ground. Even funnier getting up!

Even when I feel really awful, I try to get out, even if it's just sitting on a bench. Sometimes it's a bit like walking through quick sand isn't it? I always feel a bit better for being out.

Yep,you've definitely hit the nail on the head there!! I love nothing better than getting out to a picnic somewhere, even if it does mean very unsightly getting up and down on all fours to get comfortable on the rug...... I'd dread to think what it must look like to strangers ๐Ÿ˜‚ I get into the garden for at least a few minutes almost every day so I can sort bird feeders and hedgehog bowls.etc, but it's whilst doing the hedgehog bowls fri night when I did a backwards roll on the concrete path๐Ÿ˜ฉ That just topped my day off after falling down the stairs on fri morning๐Ÿ˜ But yep,I desperately needed fresh air yesterday. Oh poor you!

I went through a spate of falling Harris over tip! I think my muscles had become so weak from stiffness and pain. Not so stiff now, and haven't fallen over for a couple of months!

You lucky thing Nettac

I fell down some stairs Friday morning while I was on my way out to see the orthotics team about getting some insoles made - I've been given exercises to try and strengthen the tendons in my leg by the Physio, but as usual they don't touch the sides.... I wear some insoles that I got from my previous Physio, and as soon as I've got them on I can instantly feel the difference in my balance, the only trouble is that with the custom made ones,i've now got to find a pair of relatively high ankled trainers,as my vans are too low๐Ÿ˜ค I suppose I could just try a pair of their higher vans? Since I've had my arthritis vans are the only trainers I've found my feet to be able to fit into comfortably - I used to live and die in reeboks,so much so I've still got some in boxes that haven't even been worn, and that's just because they're too narrow now๐Ÿ˜ข Oh well,if getting a pair of high top trainers is all I need to do to be able to stay upright, then it's got to be worth it,because at the minute I'm walking like I've had an accident, and as soon as I take my shoes off, then j usually do have an accident/fall ๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿ˜œ

Yes I were orthotics. I'm going to get another pair done tomorrow whilst at flare clinic. I simply can't manage without them!

Hope you don't mind me asking - I have been diagnosed with Posterior tibial tendoniris as a result of the RA. The issue I am encountering are comfy shoes, as for the love of me walking is so tricky - I should say I now hobble ๐Ÿ˜ฌ! Can you recommend good insoles that are not customised and you mention Vans - are there any particular types of Vans?. I need ankle support (inside of my ankles is where it hurts most, as well as top of feet). On Predinosone for a month ! My Rheumy has said it's on a scale of 8 out 10 being high! So will defo need Physio too. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. ๐Ÿ˜Œx

Hi Hessie5

I too used to walk for miles on a daily basis with my mums lab before I was ill,so I understand the need for comfy shoes - it's just that since I was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis, along with tendinitis being just one of the other ailments, all of a sudden my feet were too wide to fit into any of my usual reebok shoes - I found vans by accident, and just discovered that those(especially when combined with curly laces, instead of the ones the shoes come with) just made them the only shoes that were comfortable for me to wear again. I know they do hitop versions.which is where they basically wrap around the ankle(almost like a trainer boot) but I've yet to buy any,so can't say if they're any good or not?!

The make of the insoles I got from the Physio were 'vasyli custom' I'm not sure, but I think they were about ยฃ20-25 at the very most, and as soon as I put them on they Physio said she could see my ankle roll the way it was meant to,as oppose to rolling inwards.plus,I could feel that I was actually standing more aligned than I had been๐Ÿ˜Š The guy who did the imprint for my custom made orthotics the other day didn't seem too impressed, but I chose to ignore him,as I've seen two different physios since wearing the off the shelf ones, and both have said about how good they are for your feet,so I've definitely got no qualms in recommending them for use - hopefully you'll find as much relief as I do from them.... I'm only getting the custom ones now because it's gotten to the point where my left foot is so bad that I can barely stand up without falling over.... to other people I must look drunk๐Ÿ˜

Good luck with the prednisone ,I had to come off of those after I got every side effect mentioned, including acne for the first time ever at 41!! They were the devils work where my body is concerned๐Ÿ˜ฉ

You're a star Nicki thank for this helpful response. I shall certainly invest in those insoles - I got quotes starting from ยฃ100 plus ! ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

My rheumo put me on the Pred Just the 1 month - final week next week, gradually tailoring off. The stubborn me did refuse to take these tablets, but the inflammation was so bad just couldn't walk so frustrating as it was had to succumb ๐Ÿ˜. Whilst I feel somewhat better - I can feel the tightness still there, hoping it will get to a good level once physio kicks in. Again a huge thank you. Enjoy your afternoon. Hessie x

No thanks needed Hessie5

If I can do some good, even if it's just a point in the right direction for insoles, then I'm only too happy to help๐Ÿ˜Š I just hope you manage to find a decent Physio that stiocks plenty so you can pretty much skip out of there on the same day?!

Let me know how you get on

Good luck

She's beautiful Nikki.

Good to hear you managed some time out today- no matter how sore, sometimes we just need to be out in the World. It's a tonic in itself !

Rest easy this evening.

Thanks Marie - she's like a little whirlwind, and I never knew such small legs could run so fast ๐Ÿ˜‚

It did literally finish me off,but it was needed, and I've been laid up with my feet raised on a bolster cushion ever since,I've got Physio on tues,so fingers crossed I've only got another day and a bit to suffer, and then I'll get beaten black and blue from the inside out,but in a good way ๐Ÿ˜Š

Thank you Hessie5

I just figured that by Sunday everyone's had such a long week, that a small smile creeping across your face would be welcomed by most.... luckily I don't think I've offended anyone by doing this.

She's growing so fast too - I can't believe she's going to be 6months in a fortnight.... the time's flown by so quickly, and I definitely can't imagine her being any smaller than she is now,but she's about 3 times bigger, and pretty much about 85% of her adult height and weight already.... and she's as stubborn as a mule when she wants, and as good as gold when it suits too๐Ÿ˜ˆ

MargaretStirling profile image
MargaretStirling

That's good don't need to walk long distances take your time 5 minutes walking slow sit down then even on a wall breathe in and out then another wee walk Remember don't let yourself get tired going because you have to come back home and you could be exhausted and that would set you back

Nickijk73 profile image
Nickijk73 in reply to MargaretStirling

That's exactly it MargaretStirling

I took terry because I didn't feel too good,so this way I got to hobble out,get some fresh air,and a good laugh while those two did all the work keeping me amused ๐Ÿ˜ And yep,she may be gorgeous, but by the end of the walk, she was far from clean, and that's when she becomes my dog,so I'm the one that has to sit and clean her to within an inch of her life .... she's pretty tolerant for a while, and then when she's started to have had enough I just cover her in doggy spray leave in conditioner, rub her down with my hands so that at least when it comes to brushing her again later, the knots should mainly have worked themselves out ๐Ÿ˜Š It' takes hours of grooming to keep her hair in such good condition, but I took all that into account when I decided I wanted to grow her hair - pretty much every time you see a Maltese out and about, they're always cut so short, because it's easier for the owners, and I didn't want that, her mum looks so beautiful that I decided I wanted that for her too.... and it's not like I don't have the time to do it either... with the added bonus of it making our bond so much stronger too x

Oh but she's gorgeous! I wish I'd been there to see Terry and her (aided and abetted by your good self) having a good old romp in the sunshine. I get my bugaboo back today from my son's. We had a week in Gran Canaria so she went for her hols to Andrew's. We had a good time and I know she's well loved and cared for. Spoilt is another word for It!

Sounds like absolute bliss, esp the adult only hotel ๐Ÿ˜Š You only live once,so make the most of the time you have while you can..... I know I intend to start making up for lost time now that I'm slowly getting back on my feet x

That's exactly how I feel, just very rarely in the past few years I've actually had the physical ability to match it - fingers crossed this year will be my year.

Right,I'm already dozing off,so I'll say goodnight before I pass out. Hopefully you'll have a good nights rest/sleep too.
