Itching

I don't know if it's because my methotrexate has been increased but I feel it by all over! I also have an ache under my arm ( armpit ) and a heavyness in my arm. Is this a normal side affect methotrexate? Has anyone else had this experience?

Apologies - I feel I'm always asking questions but still quite new to everything.

Hi- I had that when mine was inccreased- I was advised to take antihistamine, but I suggest you ring your rheumy or clinical nurse tomorrow morning to run it by them- try and rest up 🙂

Hi there, it is definately a known side effect but can occur at any time when on MTX, they normally only advise to report if symptoms are severe. The iching i had i was chasing round my body from spot to spot it drove me absolutely nuts for the few hours it lasted. Blessings

If you can this time of year try to get in & see your GP Marie, it may be a side effect of MTX or a reaction to something else. Try to think if you've changed anything other than meds or an increase in them, soap powder/ liquid is a usual suspect but there are others. It may be an antihistamine would help ease the itching but it's better if the route cause if found obviously.

Hi Eiram50--- firstly, please don't feel the need to apologise for any question that you feel you need an answer too. We all have different experiences with different drugs, and symptoms of the disease. I do have itching - mainly hands and feet, but it usually only happens when my RD is not under control, which it isn't atm. 😊

Thanks Mary. I'm hoping I've just picked up a wee bug or something? I hope it's not the start of another flare. I so wanted to get through the festive period without the kids worrying about me at the back of their minds. Unfortunately my AS is very aggressive and they've not yet been able to slow it down so Its very rare that I have any significant periods of feeling great. Guess we all have our crosses to hear and Ive no doubt, like all of us, I'll get through this blip too.

Thanks for your concern and your kind words. Thank god I found this site as it is a source of comfort and strength !

Yes I have ankylosingnspindylitis and peripheral rhuemetoid arthritis. I was diagnosed in august 2014. In the February 2015 I had both my hips replaced (same time) and in the July both knees replaced at the same time too. Foot surgery in July this year and then consultant told me my body needed a break before further surgery. I've been told I will need surgery on both elbows and my spine which is fused at the bottom and now fusing at my neck.

Fortunately my work has been great with me. I'm a social worker in a children and families practice team. Also single parent to four girls (3 still at home). It's not easy but I know there are worse things in life and I am blessed with good kids and great friends - keeps me going!
