Bloods outside normal range for over 2 years.

I have recently looked at all my blood test results on line. Results were fine up until last two years when CRP, MCHC, lymphocyte, red blood cell and total white cell have all been outside normal range. CRP was high when first diagnosed, and often fluctuates still.

All coincides with feeling totally cack for the past few years. No idea what results mean (apart from CRP). Docs not that bothered despite big change in results for me. I was contacted when CRP and lymphocytes were really out of whack, no one seems too bothered by the changes otherwise.

Wish I knew what was going on...or maybe it's best I don't!

When were you diagnosed with RA ? What meds have you been on?

Diagnosed with aero negative arthritis in May. Have had for depot of methylprednisolone and tried sulfasalazine. Was allergic to the sulfa.

Just started leflunomide four weeks ago. I notice that CRP is creeping up again and other tests still out of norm.

The low MCH usually means that you are anemic. RA patients are very often. High leucocytes and CRP can be caused by RA that is not well controlled but can also indicate an infection. I really think you should sit down with your doctor and ask him to explain your situation so that you understand what everything means, insist on it. Being uncertain and anxious only increases stress which in turn often makes symptoms worse. Take care and good luck:)

I think it would be difficult to tell you much in terms of your results, but I do know that sometimes the physicians I have been to didn't react when I would have expected them to. It may be because we are not trained in how to interpret the results and of course, the issue becomes more difficult when they change the results for what is "normal" all of the time it seems. One example is total cholesterol. I was ten points under the top of the "normal" range and then six months later they lowered the range. Suddenly I was over and my doc was sending me instructions to cut out my red meat (I was vegetarian at the time)..

I would say that if you are worried, call your doc and tell them that, and why. they are the best ones to tell you what you are going through. Hope you find answers soon..

Thanks. when results are really out of whack the hospital specifies to phone patient. Otherwise, my other tests are red starred, marked as out of normal range but OK.

Tests have been out of normal range for quite sometime. I wouldn't worry if they'd always been out of normal range, but they haven't.

Unfortunately I don't have a great relationship with my GP practice, so I'm not that keen to question anything with them. I've been robbed of more than once. I might print all tests off and take them to rheumatology next time.

Yes I really think you would get the best help from a specialist.

It will also depend on how far out of range the tests are. I was worried about one of my liver tests being 10% above the top of the range in November. The rheumatologist said it would need to be three times the normal range over more than one reading for them to be concerned. What I don't like to see on my results is the GPs "Abnormal but expected".

I'd ask if I were you.

Not what you're looking for?
