I have had RA for about 20 years now and have just booked a course of 6 Acupunture sessions. I wondered if anyone had tried it and if it worked at all.

I was offered acupuncture as part of physio to help get over whiplash on my already iffy neck so gave it a go. Sadly I didn't feel any benefit, many people do though so I'd say it's worth a try.

As you say it's worth giving it a go. Thanks

Yes, I started having acupuncture regularly in 1986 when I was pregnant with my first child, as I didn't want to be taking any drugs. I have used it ever since. There are different types. The main 2 are 'five elements' and 'TCM, traditional Chinese medicine'. Practionners of these types of acupuncture have to have a long training to become accredited. However it is also possible for health professionals to have a much shorter training, which is obviously more limited in what it can offer. Weekend training used to be possible, but I doubt if it is any more!

I've had a couple of "rounds" of acupuncture- it can help with pain reduction.

I had acupuncture for Fibromyalgia on and off for many years. It helps with pain and feelings of wellbeing. I tried a number of practitioners, but found Chinese acupuncture to be the most effective. It is the only thing that has really helped me, I recommend it

Hi, I tried it in the 1st year or so after my diagnosis, I 1st went to a guy who was about an hour away from where I live who was great and i definitely got relief, however, when I started to attend a practitioner closer to home I got no relief from her sessions... I think in my limited experience, it is very much down to your practitioner... I hope u get some relief

regards

hally

You need a good professional to get maximum benefit. Had my first session last week and the effect was amazing. Imagine very individual how it works but definately worth a try! Good luck.

I have had acupuncture in the past. I found when I was not in a flare it worked well for the pain relief, but in a flare I could not tolerate it at all.

Even if it works for pain relief I will be happy. Thanks for replying.

Have you tried LDN for pain relief? Combined with acupuncture it really works for me!😊

I have had acupuncture. It worked well for many things including arthritis in my big toe. It didn't work for polymyalgia but well worth trying. I had Chinese acupuncture.

I don't know how much it worked but I loved it. I found it oddly relaxing. Forced meditation (you certainly can't move with needles poking out of you!).

I like the idea of forced relaxation. Thanks

I haven't tried it yet, but my sister has Lupus and she goes monthly and says it makes all the difference in the world for her and her pain. I hope it helps you! Hugs!

Hi

Just wondered if you have seen the review of the research evidence for the benefits of acupuncture in RA, OA, fibro and low back pain that was carried out a few years ago by ARUK? This is the link to the document, it may be of interest to you.

If looking for a therapist then this may be a useful starting point therapy-directory.org.uk/

Best wishes

I started seeing a homeopathic doctor and then I had acupuncture to have acupuncture. The Dr's wanted my body to start responding to the homeopathic meds before having any acupuncture. :)

Elleanor if it helps you out at all I know a lot of people that take Chinese herbs from these places jingherbs.com/

dragonherbs.com/

indigo-herbs.co.uk/

If you are interested in taking chinese herbs you would of of course have to talk to a email one of there Practitioners and tell them about your medical history etc. However I know for me since taking Chinese herbs it has helped me in so many ways.

Ps you can also buy these herbs in the uk.

Hi Patsy, yes tried it many moons ago and it did definitely work for me just not long term sadly. I remember that the weather was cold and yet I felt like I was wrapped up in a lovely warm blanket and the pain disappeared!!
