Burning sensation on palmside to inner wrist. Does not align with fingers. Activity such as counting money, pinching, using a mouse, texting causes shooting pain and throbbing. Help

That doesn't sound like the onset of rheumatoid arthritis to me, more like carpel tunnel or something of that sort. Should be fairly easily fixed, so go see your GP.

I have seen GP and had x rays but he says it's not carpal tunnel. Massage therapists says it's muscular and needs to be exercised back into place but it hurts so bad I'm in tears. I'm just searching to see if anyone else has any suggestions. Thanks for the reply.

Hi Angel

I suffer with similar problem but am just waiting for diagnosis. Had blood & X Rays done & see GP on 30th Nov.

Are base of thumbs/hand swollen?

Mine were & have gone down since I stopped eating bread & products containing wheat, soy, corn etc.

Yes they are swollen . The pain is in that extended part down thru that wrist joint. If I use my hands much especially holding the mouse or lifting things that require thumb and index finger pinching then they throb and pain shoots thru that joint. Doc did X-rays and says it's not carpal tunnel. Massage therapists says it needs to be worked and massaged but oh my that hurts like everything!!! I'm sick of it and really need to find an answer. Yours sounds a lot like mine. Please keep me informed of your progress. And thanks for responding.

Yes, I will keep in touch.

I have followed you if that's ok because it's good to be in touch with people who have same/similar symptoms. We can compare notes.

Which area do you live in?

I am in BRIDLINGTON.

Are you under a Rheumatologist yet? Let me know if/when they put you on medication it sounds as if you need some with having so much pain. People on here have really good advice like as for wrist splints/bands if they will help you at work or to keep them straight as you sleep so there is less strain on them.

Keep in touch Angel

Love & hugs. 😉

Great on the follow. I followed you (I think) lol I'm in Texas. I just trying to find answers as the pain is really bad today and I'm afraid it's just gonna get worse. I've yet to see anyone but my GP and a massage therapist as my chiropractor thought that might help, 6 weeks of that and seems to be the same. I'm so glad to talk to someone who seems to have the same issue. I pray you get an answer as chronic pain is debilitating at times. Hugs across the pond. Joyce

Hi Joyce

So you live in warm weather that's good.

Mine comes on because of the cold & damp here in UK.

I was in USA this time last year doing a West Coast tour. Love it.

Will be in Florida in April hopefully.

Not been to Texas yet.

Cheers Ali x

Not so warm today, cold front moved in Saturday night. We're at 32 right now, lol but it'll be near 60 today, so warming back up. Our winter sets in hard about January and February usually . Today pain is not so bad but I kept them on heating pad most of the day yesterday and lifted as little as possible. Who knows about today though. Lol I've never been to Florida , maybe one day. Have a blessed day

Joyce try the temperature here it's more like 3 degrees! Will swap you. Couldn't live in Texas in the summertime it would be too hot for me.

Glad you are not too pained today. Hope it eases off completely. Try looking at your diet there is a good one out called AUTO IMMUNE PALEO but it is quite strict. Find it online or Facebook. I am stopped eating bread, wheat & sugar products & swelling below my thumbs have gone down dramatically. Less pain in wrists too.

Give it a go. X

I've had carpel tunnel done twice, it does sound like it but , i have pain in my thumbs now and its PsA my knuckles are going higher in places and not in other . Little finger and ring finger are down other two up and its very painful, hence not so much texting and typing. Finger tips go white also. and get very cold. So i would not rule out RA or PsA.

Hi Angel,

Oh dear, you really sound in pain. I can only help by telling you that my wrist and thumb are the same as yours during a bad flare up, and are caused by the R/A. I can't even pick up a piece of paper, or turn my wrist, and my thumb needs support too. I have been given a wrist support which has a metal bar in it to help keep my wrist from twisting, and another support which keeps my thumb in place. They were given to me right at the start of my diagnosis as I was so bad, and they came from the occupational therapist at the hospital. I have to decide which one I need the most on particular days, but they really help. I feel for you, I'm retired so do not have to do what I can't, but the pain is excruciating anyway. I was given a steroid injection as soon as the Rheumy saw me for my initial visit but in the long run it still comes back during a flare. I'm sure if you saw your Rheumy consultant or nurse they would say no to exercise.

Please let us know how you get on, and many many warm hugs to you and I hope you get relief soon.

Thank you ladybird930. I've never been diagnosed with RA I'm just now beginning to explore different doctors. My GP has never mentioned it , he did X-rays and said its not carpal tunnel or arthritis Seein a new doctor after first of the year because I have to find some relief till then I use a brace that mobilizes the thumb and wrist and normally heat when they're throbbing. At least hearing others say they have similar symptoms makes me feel that I'm not crazy and need to find an answer. Prayers for relief for you also for this is so debilitating at times.
