I used to take my tablets split during the day with meals & which was fine for a while, it was only when I was having more nausea I was changed to injections. Maybe if you're on tablets you could change up to injections if it's the MTX causing it? Might be worth asking your Rheumy.

It's best to make sure you protect yourself in the sun on MTX & HCQ as both can cause photosensitivity especially if you're on holiday somewhere hot & have typical UK type skin! I lived in the sun & had no problems but didn't really sunbathe, except for the 20 or 30 minutes of unprotected sunshine "prescribed" by my Consultant to boost my vitamin D levels. Of course even though we all have different reactions to sunlight sun protection should still be applied. I caught my legs for the first time sitting in the garden last year, didn't even think about it so make sure I apply sunscreen if I'm out in it for any length of time now.

Thanks will try splitting tablets i am on 8 every tuesday so will have a go 4 in morn and 4 at night. Hope that it doesnt matter about changing the time. I am in spain on hols so thought should i sunbathe or not but have been putting the sun tan lotion on though. Dont think it is food here as i am at family villa and being very well looked after. Just this horrible tummy churning!

On 15g I used to take 2 with breakfast, 2 with lunch & 2 with dinner, as directed by my Consultant. It was Spain where I used to live! Hope you're having a relaxing time. I believe from friends who are here on a visit from Valencia that they left lovely weather, though it does seem they've brought some with them, it's been beautiful here today!

Do be careful & remember to cover up if walking around, it's surprising how much skin is exposed & can be caught by the sun, just be aware.

Hope it's a high factor sun cream just in case.

Even if you're in a family home, just the difference in water and types of food can upset your stomach quite easily. And do take extra care about washing your hands regularly as you won't be used to the local yeasts that you'll be picking up as you touch things.

Just had a text from some Spanish friends. Seems the weather's turned & there's flooding in areas. I hope you're not caught up in it.

Oh good. Cooler here today but it was very pleasant for Sept yesterday & set fine for tomorrow but no, it won't be 27˚!

You'll have to keep up with the swimming as you've felt good for it, though it doesn't quite have the same appeal when the sun's not beating down on the pool does it?! Enjoy what's left of your hols. x

Hi hope your enjoying your holiday, make sure it's a high factor sun cream and where light cover ups, when I used to take mtx, which I cannot have now due to a reaction, I used to wear these to cover arms and shoulders, also used to wear a big floppy hat as well to protect from the sun, hope this is helpful, enjoy your holiday. Sun creams contain perfume which can cause reactions in sunlight. So caution!

I've always sunbathed whilst on Mtx, I know it can cause sun sensitivity but it didn't have that effect on me. I think nomoreheels has the right approach - a short period of unprotected sun exposure is great for boosting vitamin D levels. Though I wouldn't go lily white straight into mediterranean sunshine, that's asking for trouble. Best to build up exposure carefully, watching for reactions and avoiding burning.

I don't purposefully avoid the sun and I almost never use sunscreen (I'm more concerned with getting enough vitamin D). That said, I'm also not a sun worshipper and try not to be outdoors for very long around noon. I think you need to take calculated risks. I enjoy the warmth of the sun, a bright sunny day elevates my mood.
