Feeling exhausted.....

Hi to those who know I did make it to Canada after being in hospital for about 6 days the week before.

I am usually tired for the first couple of days after I arrive. I am now into my third week and I am struggling to stay awake in the early evenings. The Dr's did change the times to take my meds, (with my evening meal), I usually take some of them later before going to bed. Plus I have induced diabetes now caused by taking prednisilone for over 2 years. I was told that should be able to stop taking the diabetic meds once I have stop taking the steroid medication. Of course that depends on if they get my RA under control with the to I infusions, which some will know I only had one infusion before my trip.

I really do not understand why I can't stay awake in the evenings? My family are very understanding but also find it a little funny that my 9 year old twin g-daughters can stay awake well after me.

I am only taking 20mg prednisilone and 30mg oxycodone in the morning for pain, the rest of my meds are for other health issues.

Can it just be the RA or the diabetes that is making me feel so tired? I come over every year and I haven't felt like this before.

Appreciate any feedback.

I am having a wonderful time with my family otherwise. Hope everyone else is feeling better and not in a lot of pain.

Take care,

Sue xx

It might be the RA as I'm the same and have had RA for 2years now the fatigue I get is almost as bad as the pain I'm on mtx inj and Sulfa so I don't know if it's the meds or my RA but I struggle to stay a wake at night and I'm always tired

Hello my friend, Sue one of the top symptoms of RD is fatigue. Like me you were on steroids for quite a while. I noted as I reduced them that the fatigue got worse. It won't have helped that you have not had the drugs you were prescribed. I'm still in Bulgaria and finally came off the steroids 2 months ago but although the toczilimab is good for fatigue it does not cure it. So at 9.00pm I am shattered. I hope the rest of your stay in Canada is good and stick a rocket up someone when you get back.

Hi my friend,

I sure will be sticking a rocket up someone when I get back.

Last year I was on Enbrel pens and feeling fine, like you said that all changed this year and I have to deal with the steroids again.

I am having a lovely time with my family and amazed a the amount of walking I have done this last week.

I am still considering coming back to Canada but I need to check out medications before I make my final decision.

Chat when I get back.

Take care, glad you are keeping well.

I have type 2 diabetes and when I take steroids (especially in tablet form) my blood sugar levels double. I spoke to the diabetes doctor about this last week and we agreed just to monitor it when I have injection and I'll do everything to keep off pred now.

Tiredness is the RA I think, they've been talking on the radio about the benefits of a midday nap of about 30 mins, and I've been trying that. Not easy if you're doing something in the day, but I do find it is helpful.

I hope you can still enjoy your visit

I'm so pleased that you managed to get there, and having a good time.

I have two grandchildren, aged 8 and 10. I do find that being with them for a prolonged period is more tiring now than when they were smaller They have so much nonstop energy!!!

I have also been fighting fatigue, the humira doesn't seem to touch it. So maybe the combination of RD and grandchildren is getting to you too!

Hope you enjoy the rest of your stay. M xx

Thank you it is good to hear from everyone. I was starting to feel concerned as I only found out about the diabetes just before my trip and didn't get the chance to get my head around things. I was feeling fantastic after the first to I infusion and then everything went to pot!!

I find it hard to read even in the afternoon without my eyes closing and as yet, I haven't made it to the end of a movie without falling asleep. This is just not me even with all the meds in the past. I guess the 5 hour difference doesn't help either. I shouldn't complain, at least I am not suffering pain wise as I did when I reduced the steroids down to 7.5mg. I still have another 3 and a half weeks and I intend to make the most of the lovely weather and my family.

See you when I get back, hopefully, they will have sorted the problem with the infusions and I can get back on track.

Take care,

Sue xx
