Poor you!
No advice given by orthopaedics?
Check with your GP/rheumatology nurse (if you have one) in the morning.
Oh crikey, sorry to hear about yr ankle, dont apologise for feeling sorry for yr self, dont blame you, i agree on ringing yr rheumy tomorrow, hope its not to painful for you, rest up.x
You should always tell your doctors but it is most important for surgical procedures or any wound breaking the skin. Most of the potent RA-neds depress your immune system eg biological/methotrexate/steroids as I know to my cost. Steroids are very potent are slowing your healing rate as well. Me? When I fractured my skull in 2012, and needed a shunt implanting to drain the build-up of fluid, it was not a planned procedure but an emergency after my accident, and partly because I was on Humira and had a less effective immune system, the shunt became infected/blocked and I had an awful second stay in hospital while it was sorted out and a new shunt implanted. I believe biological are a high-risk factor for implants, eg metal pins or screws used for fractures. So yep, you must tell the doctors Given warning the Humira would have bee stopped weeks in advance, but then if I knew that this was going to happen, I would not have had the fracture in the first place!
Poor you. Best to ask both rheumatologist and orthopaedic doc, and hope they concur! Hope you aren't in a lot of pain. J
Hi Nellysgran: So sorry about your fall. However, I fell and broke my ankle 7 years ago. I have RA. I continued all of my medications as usual. I would suggest consulting your Rheumy, and Orthopedic Drs. to be sure. Good luck and do have a speedy recovery.
Not surprised you're feeling sorry for yourself, what a misfortune. Hope you manage to get through to your rheumy team today to find out. I think like many other things with this disease it's variable whether you need to stop or not - probably depends on your general state of health, weight, drug doses eye etc. so best to ask your own docs.
Can't add anything more to what others have said but commiserations - poor you. Awful how one minute you're going about your business next you've got a broken ankle. Don't apologise, you're entitled to feel a bit sorry for yourself. Get well soon 😀
Can't do much to help, but I can offer gentle hugs! I learned years ago after foot surgery how horrible it can be to not be able to just get up out of a chair and walk about to do even the simplest of things. It was quite eye opening and made me so much more empathetic to folks that have to live their lives in a wheelchair. I hope you can get some information from your doctors about your med questions. And I hope your ankle heals very quickly!
