Glad the Dratted stone is out at last !!! Hope you make a very good recovery. When you're feeling up to it please post up on the op. For gallbladder removal, my hubby Ken is awaiting surgery to have his removed and it will be really interesting to hear, take care lynda xx

in reply to

Will do Lynda. Only thing I can say now is that there seem to be five keyholes dotted about my abdomen and "quite sore" is a big understatement - for me anyhow. Maybe people just trying to be nice and not put me off? But hopefully worth it in the long run even though my one stone is the size and appearance of a standard roughened Cadburies cream egg!

Ps and I'm home! Hubby has to have some minor procedures with our GP at our surgery himself in an hour - so I didn't want him to drive later to pick me up. Tramadol and sunshine - bliss!

Pleased it's done now & take it easy for the time being. My h's Consultant won't do his, too risky with all he has going on so has to put up with having flares, not good.

in reply tonomoreheels

It becomes a risky op if done while gallbladder is inflammed because of the potential for bleeds. Interestingly the assistant surgeon I saw yesterday suggested I change my mind about getting mine removed as he had studied scans and gallbladder looked okay. He said people all over the place get on with their lives unaware of stones.

Then he added that most of my pain would be caused by having Rheumatoid so he was concerned I might be expecting too much from the cholecystectomy. I didn't buy this as they are terribly busy and short staffed just now and I told him that my rheumy and GP both felt it needed to come out - as did two other surgeons. All very well but surely the perfect time to get it done is when it's not causing trouble?

The surgeon told me that he was really pleased to find mine didn't bleed at all yesterday as he had been concerned it might - what with steroids etc.

It is a bit of a whopper my stone - not quite sure what to do with it now as its sitting on the shelf filling half of a pee pot?! Husband not keen on it at all!

It's not that it's inflamed, just with his general health it's not advisable. His concern was there'd be no guarantee he wouldn't be left with permanent diarrhoea & he struggles as it is with that with his IBS. Plus his diabetes, heart & other problems he's very reluctant to operate, not an ideal candidate. If when he sees him again in a few months he decides he wants to go ahead he's said he wouldn't do it at the private hospital because they don't have the emergency facilities, not the thing you want to hear, that he might need them. He was suggesting a CT scan just to "see how the land lay" but as he's not long had a colonoscopy which shows more he'd have a look at that. He has just the one stone, about the size of an apricot & his best advice is leave well alone. If upper abdominal pain becomes too much he'll see him before.

So no go just now but I'd rather than him be at risk of being in an emergency situation!

Poor thing he certainly has a lot to contend with. It will be interesting to see if having mine removed gives general benefit or not. Last night was the worst night of widespread pain I've ever experienced but I don't think the poor practice of the hospital and one nurse helped. More later. Sunning in garden with middle son and his lovely nurse girlfriend just now feeling very lucky.

Oh I hope so I really do. After all the f@rting about you've had it'd better eh?

Sounds like the hospital could do with a visit from those on high, needs serious rebooting by the sounds of it. Never mind, you won't be needing it from late in the year, just hope you can keep out of it till then! x

Loads of love Twitchy and best wishes for a speedy recovery from the op. Hope no more awfulness after yesterday and last night. I think they originally told you the gall stones were small? But clearly not so maybe that huge one Allanah mentions might actually have caused some of the recent problems after all. And if so hopefully they won't recur and things will get easier for you. I do hope so. Thinking of you v much. Loads love Tillyxxx

Pleased it is out at last, wishing you a quick recovery. Oh by the way, if the stone goes missing from the shelf and someone brings you a cream egg, don't accept it!
