Hello krazy,
I don't get the fog as often or as badly as some but I do have a feeling of "wading through treacle" at times in terms of organising my thoughts. I am the Queen of writing lists which helps me remember what needs to be done and to prioritise.
Do you have a mental health diagnosis? Are you receiving any support for this?
I don't know about the mental illness connection, but I used to suffer all the time from the sensation you describe - until I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid. A few days into my thyroxine treatment and the fog miraculously cleared!
May not be relevant in your case, but have you ever had your thyroid activity checked? If not, suggest you ask your doc.
I've not got fibro fog as I don't have fibro but I am having brain fog which both my GP & myself are sure is caused by gabapentin. If this latest increase doesn't help the reason I'm taking it we're giving up on it. I'm no longer sharp as a tack as my mum used to say, I struggle with words & can't remember actors or singers names, my forte as is trivia, it all just eludes me. Memory problems concerns me & my GP has noticed a change. I can't remember recent conversations & I'm constantly writing lists. I've even forgotten to ring my Podietrist, 3rd day now & I'm reminded every day why I need to see her, my feet are so sore & my corns are paining me now so I should remember!
It's just rubbish feeling like this so I hope you get some answers krazy girl. x
Hello! I just wanted to reply as I have rheumatoid inflammatory disease and have also had to deal with anxiety and depression in the past. I really recognise the "dissociation" you refer to. In my experience this can be a result of exhaustion and anxiety, both conditions being unsurprising if you have a debilitating illness on top of all the other things life throws at us from time to time.
The feeling can also be an unwanted effect of many medications.
I have taught myself to allow myself my imperfections, even if not everyone else does, and this has helped. Of course, I have no medical training so I am just passing this on in the sincere hope that it might help. Ultimately it would be best to talk to a doctor about symptoms which worry you.
Hi, Fibro fog comes along with having fibromyalgia, muscle disease treated by at the moment by a Rheumatologist, Fibro fog does come with head aches and some confusion and lots of aches and painsbut fibromyaa isn't a mental health problem unless you have depression and anxiety which can go side by side with fibromyalgia, I had fibromyalgia for about 30 ish years, I also have Dementia but that's not connected to my fibromyalgia.
I had severe brain fog, and borderline mental illness in my pre-coeliac diagnosis days. Do you have any symptoms or have you been screened for coeliac disease? (not just tummy problems, but brain fog, malabsorption problems like low B12, low folate, low iron, etc can all be signs of coeliac)
When I am in despair trying to cope with Fibrofog,I just keep telling myself.....there are so many other's going through the same and yes I've had mental problems before, but this is different...it's just a symptom of Fibromyalgia,a very painful condition that loads of others have. You're not alone Babes, and your not crazy !
