Hi everyone. Not been on for a while due to feeling rubbish. Over the past 3 nights I suffered with severe body jerking through the night. It's so bad it's waking my husband up. It's really weird has anybody else experienced this?

Body Jerking...
Yes, Me and it is a pain in the bum, some night my body jumps across the bed lol and frightens the proverbial out of us lol, I don't have any answers though and it's something I haven't mentioned to my GP.
IF YOU DO FIND OUT CAN YOU PLESE POST THE ANSWER?
Philip
Me too ! I have them at night and wake myself up frequently from my semi cat napping which is lol I really get th
Shot cut off ! ........ Which is all I really get these days.
I also have them during the day very badly where some days I seem to lose all control and things fly from my hands ! Lol I often spill drinks as I chuck the contents over my bed or worse.... My cat !
I have tried to ask what causes them but they just seem to avoided the question and so far I haven't got an answer.
If anyone does get some idea of what causes it then I will be the first to pat them on the back ! Lol
Sorry I can't be much help but only sympathise with you. Mwah !
Take care. Xx
Hi there... I suffer from night paralysis and terrors so Ive looked up a fair bit on the subject of sleep. I do think that hypnic jerks is probably the nearest answer to your question but if you are worried, its best to peak to your GP.
Thanks for both your responses. Much appreciated. I have looked up my symptoms like you net buddy, and I too followed the path of hyping jerks however that reads to me that it occurs whilst falling asleep, mine happens when I am asleep and it's my whole body that jerks. I have ended up at the bottom of my bed and my husband says it happens throughout the night.(probably the reason I'm tired all day).
Xandi I also have sudden involuntary movements throughout the day often dropping things. I am going to book in with my GP next week and see what he thinks. I had an operation on my Neck through RA LAST May and fear it may be a repercussion from that. I've been waiting for a follow up appointment from my neurologist but as yet have not got one. I will let you know what transpires. X
HI Donnalouise, yes its best to speak to your doc especially after spine surgery. If they are happening during the day then yours might be the monoclonal jerks they mention but only a doc could tell you that so no use worrying until you clear it up. Im glad you will see the GP next week to sort it out.
Also, just in interest about the hypnic jerks.... I think I did read somewhere that you phase in and out of the different sleep patterns all night and the jerks happen when going from one stage to another so if that's the case then it would not only occur when you are headed off to bed but also during the night, especially if you dont sleep well for any reason (i.e. pain). I get them at all different times during the night but my sleep is continually interrupted and I rarely get more than 2 hours at any one time.
This may be a shot in the dark but I started to take Gabapentin for nerve pain and shortly afterwards I started to get these jolts to the body and they were more noticeable when I was laying down or trying to sleep.
As I say, it may not be anything in relation to your jolts but it might be due to medication? I have also heard of lots of people getting this and restless leg syndrome which has sometimes been linked to vitamin deficiency especially iron, folic acid and b vits?
Sorry if this is not much help or completely irrelevant but thought it was worth a mention and maybe something to discuss with your Dr?
Good luck.
Yes its funny what u get used to and had forgotten about it till you mentioned it.... I take pregabalin (Lyrica) as I have had previous spine problems/surgeries (and also peripheral neuropathy from diabetes) and I was getting these electric jolts into my hands/body too. When I went off the medication, it ceased. However, unfortunately for me I needed it to control the paraesthesias so I had to go back on it.
Thanks for that Tracy, any comments are really helpful as at least I'm not on my own!! I also wake up with numb fingers. It's a strange disease we all suffer!! 😔
If your fingers come back to life after shaking them, then the numbness could well be the start of carpal tunnel. If not, it could be linked to your neck surgery so best to mention that to the doc too
Hi all.....Yes, I have had exactly what you are describing for years. Just nodding off and I will jerk or jump. It is horrible and alarming and it will wake me up and anyone around me. It can happen at a nap or at bed time, makes no difference. Most often in the beginning of sleep but also happens during night. I am just less aware of it.
As it turns out, after testing, it is, for me at least, a type of seizure. It is mild and I was put on Topamax. Also, I understand trying malitonin can help, starting with low doses and working up. I added that in so that I could take a lower dose of Topamax and I have no more jumping. None. If I miss one dose of either I get the jerking, so there must be something to it?
Not saying this is anyone else's problem, but just something to look into. I was diagnosed about 15 years ago.
Good luck All!
Hi Donna... have you been to see the doc about the body jerks? Let us know how you go...
