Sulphasalazine

Hi all, hope your all as well as can be. I have been taking Sulphasalazine now for 8 weeks, and for the last 4 weeks I have been suffering with acid reflux, waking me up at night. I was wondering if anyone else have suffered with this whilst taking Sulpasalazine ? I already take 40mg per day of omeprazol for reflux and hiatus hernia.

The docs increased my omeprazole to two a day and that helped xx

Thanks Allanah, I take 2 a day, 20mg x 2 daily, which has been fine for many years until I started Sulphasalazine, could there be an interaction between the 2?

In my case the sulpha does cause indigestion d diarrhoea initially but the increSed tablets helped. Maybe go have a chat with the gp for another tummy remedy ?

Hi I take 2 x 20mg Omeprazole in the morning then before I go to bed take 2 x 150mg R.anitidine for my reflux which is really bad if I don't have them. Ask your GP

Thanks both, I am seeing GP this morning, so will ask him about this. I too get diarrhoea occasionally with the Sulphasalazine, but not as bad as when taking MTX. My hands are really swollen and painful. Hoping for a steroid injection today.

I've been on sulfasalazine for 2 yrs and have had the problem off and on. My rheumatologist told me to take the drug in the middle of a meal and my gastroenterologist has me on an acid reducer. As long as I follow the instructions and take the acid reducer, I don't have the problem.

i developed this reflux from taking Methatrexate. I have just started taking 500 mg Sulphasalazine. How do you feel on this drug? Have you experienced the side affect mentioned by others?

Itching every night slight nausa now gone.into 2 weeks now
