Tired after eating?

I just wondered if anyone else felt unusually tired after eating? I don't mean the sleepiness after lunch but feeling drained and needing a rest for a while about 10 minutes after eating. It doesn't seem to matter what or how much I eat.

Have you also prepared your meal? If I have not prepared our evening meal in stages throughout the day and try and do all prep and cooking before eating I struggle after or even while eating. I often hope we do get visitors after tea as the table is not cleared or kitchen tidied until later on in the evening after resting. Farm

Thanks for that thought, but it happens whether I have anything to do with the preparation or not. It feels like just digesting the food takes its toll on my energy levels. The only time I've known of something similar is when my husband had a serious infection.

I can relate to that but just think it's the day catching up on me & naturally relaxing. I don't prepare or cook our meals & we eat at 8 o'clock & have never questioned it. It's not immediate like you but I find by 9ish, about half an hour after eating & clearing the pots, I've nodded off in the chair, even after an afternoon nap. Sooo annoying. So basically, I don't know but might be worth mentioning it at your next visit if to your GP if your RD bloods have been ok recently as it could be an underlying problem with how you're processing your food. Just a thought as before my husband was diagnosed diabetic he experienced similar, without wanting to appear alarmist.

Have you thought about what you eat? I get very tired after hot spicy food, like various currys

Yes, I definately feel I could do with a nap after I have eaten. I think digestion is quite a strong internal activity so maybe lying down is good for the body?

You may have hypoglycemia which is low blood sugar and when you eat a large amount of your blood goes to arteries around the stomach to digest food and it leaves your brain tired, ask your doctor to do a blood/glucose test.

Thank you, that makes some sense. My random glucose is fine, but I haven't had a fasting one done. I'd thought this was a simple symptom, but I'm starting to think there could be a bit more to it. Thanks for the nudge.

let me know how you go.

I think inflammatory arthritis takes it out of you - our bodies are working harder than they should do all the time. Digestion's quite taxing on the body isn't it? That's what I was always told anyway.

I find that PsA has given me a fussy, prissy body ..... it doesn't like this, it complains about that ..... Every now and then I ignore it but usually I avoid large portions and eat a mainly vegetable based diet, not much meat or dairy. That way I'm okay after eating.
