Hi Rafiman, I use a website called myfitnesspal to track my calories and lose weight. I've managed to lose a lot of weight despite having ra and an underactive thyroid. Ive also managed to lose when I had steroid jabs so it can be done. Take a look at the site as it's free and offers loads of support.

Thanks Paulywoo will check for shure !

My postman said if I stop eating bread and potatos will help in weight lose too !?

Bread and potatoes eaten in moderation are good for you, it's all the butter and other stuff you use with them that puts the weight on. Jacket potatoes with either low fat spread or low fat cheese on them is very healthy. Then there's my favourite sandwich, wholemeal bread with no butter or margarine, just tinned sardines in tomato sauce - also high in omega 3.

You can always ask your GP to refer you to the NHS dieticians, but I also used myfitnesspal for a while. One of the easiest ways to reduce your calorie intake is to "downsize your plate" - find a dinner plate thats smaller than the one you currently use - it kind of tricks you into thinking you have the same full plate but in reality you can be eating up to a quarter or even a third less. Also to find some healthy snacks, but measure them out into little baggies, so again you don't fall into the trap of having too much (for example dried fruit and nuts is a good snack but you can easily eat a load of calories if you munch away without thinking. Final suggestion is to ditch all the flavoured drinks - especially the diet ones - and just drink water, apart from maybe one small glass of fruit juice a day. Diet drinks have been shown to actually increase your appetite.

I am using myfitnesspal as well also I brought The hairy dieters cook books, which have some useful tips in them. Only been trying for two weeks but I have lost weight. No trying to find some advice regarding excise as I used to go to the gym 4/5 times a week, but were sore feet, knees, elbows and not even thinking about fingers, I now feel somewhat limited in my choices. Also boots vit waters are very nice, low in calories and on special offer at the moment.

Yes but watch out as some are loaded with calories but boots one hardly have any 4 or 5. Also so some supermarkets are now selling them either zero or low in calories. I am still using the hairy dieters cook books and I have lost just over 7lbs in just over 3 weeks. No exercise either as in process of changing hospitals so no drugs only codeine while I wait, therefore all my joints are sore. The hairy dieters also have a website with some of their meals, I like their curries and we all loved the homemade kebabs..

I'm a fan of the 5:2 plan. Had success with Slimming World but found it hard to continue long term as the artificial additives in a lot of the food alternatives exacerbated my IBS (I prefer as natural a diet anyway). I ran the 5:2 plan by my GP before started and she was very encouraging. The fasting days aren't easy but doable as you know you can eat well the following day. All I would say is, if you want to give it a try, please get the book - you can pick it up cheaply on Amazon etc. It's written by a qualified doctor and a food writer and gives clear advice on how to follow the plan in a healthy manner, as well as the science behind the theory. I read some truly worrying blogs from silly people who had read a magazine article and decided to go for it without researching and were eating diet crap with no nutritional value and setting themselves up for all sorts of deficiency disorders. Sorry - bit of a hobby horse of mine! Studied nutrition at school and been soapboxing my family and friends ever since :) Whatever method you choose, I wish you every success xx

Try reading anything by John Briffa, Tim Noakes, Zoe Harcombe, who have researched the effect of eating "real food". Which means low carbs, no wheat, and no sugar. Worth trying for a week to see how effective it is.

I only eat stuff with nutritional content. So no white bread, rice, pasta, sugar. Lots of animal protein, and veg of all colours. No potatoes!

I suppose we all have our hobby horses don't we?
