From behind and jolt his knee forward!,

Sorry I know I was joking but sometimes it's so frustrating when they won't listen. What about taking a friend to join in and say about your quality of life being so rubbish and three years is a long time. ? Good luck with it x

Hello

Sorry for your pain

If you are having a knee replacement they prefer to do them later in life this is because if the knee will need to be replaced the second time problems arise as where the prosthetic is fitted may become unstable in the bone.due to wear in the joint area.

You will need to discuss this with your Specialist, he will make the best decision for your condition

Good Luck

BOB.

Hi, i am 60 & have just been told i can have a knee replacement after a 10 year wait due to condition of knee& age. As i have other health issues that seemed another reason. I was told by GP & rhuemy nurse to tell of the pain & loss of quality of life. I really hope you have a good appointment with consultant. Will be thinking of you. Love Alison xx

I don't mean to sound like your granny, but have you been doing your exercises? When I had mine done I was told in no uncertain terms that if I didn't do them I wouldn't get as successful an outcome. Apparently the movement of the knee is needed to move the synovial fluid around and promote healing, not just to keep the muscles/tendons etc in shape. It wasn't comfortable, but I did do the 2 hours a day I was told to, and that did work as 5 years later my knee is still fine.

As for the knee replacement, this is from the NHS choices website

"The earlier you have a knee replacement, the greater the chance you will eventually need further surgery. However, there is some evidence that replacing the knee joint before it becomes very stiff leads to a better outcome."

So if you're having big problems them perhaps nudge consultant towards NHS's own advice?

hi , im 52 and had my knee replaced 16 days ago , doing my exercises , but still have a very stiff knee , think this is due to the stitches there dissolvable and have not broken up yet , I have spent the last 4 months swimming up to 2 miles a day , when all this started I was told that you would not be considered until the pain affects your every day life and that there was enough wear on the joint , I went of work last may due to the fact I work in a kitchen and found it impossible to walk around on my feet all day ,I found it hard to walk or join in any physical activities with the family , even shopping was tough, I saw the consultant in nov and was told to have an mri scan of which was done in dec and I saw the consultant at the end of jan this year , when I was told that he would do it , two weeks later I had it done , , so its not always up to age push forward ,and tell him you cant go n like this , the meds is also some thing to think about , good luck , xx

Hello Deejojo,

I'm sorry to hear about your pain & difficulty in daily life activities.

I had my knee replacement when I was 49.

My Ortho did a Partial knee replacement because he said I was to young for a Partial. As it turned out, it had to be redone a year later. So I ended up with a Total anyway. I wish it would have been a Total to begin with.

If you are bone on bone & can't function due to pain & bone loss, I'd say go for the Total to start with.

A HUGE PART OF RECOVERY IS KEEP IT MOVING !!!

I did PT, but for some reason I'm just a person that builds up scar tissue easily. I don't have the best range of motionn these days. I was told to keep riding an exercise bike to keep it moving. Good Luck with your appt.

One more thing that helped me: an hour before PT Therapy, I was told to take pain med to help manage pain so that I could do the exercises.

I hope this helps.

You are in control of your body. Your Dr. Should listen to you. Take Care !!

Thank you everyone for all your support I'm gonna tell him I can't go like this I'm 57 this year surely he won't make me wait till I'm 60??? Don't think I can stand another 3year of the pain x

Hi I've just had my second knee done - a full replacement, I had my first one done 5 yrs a go when I was 55 so I don't know why he thinks you are too young!

My consultant wanted me to have a better quality of life.

Knees take a long time to settle down. My leg is very swollen & painful - I'm just over 3 weeks post op. 10 days a go I got a DVT so am on treatment for that. I've been back to the dr today as my knee is very swollen & tight, he has told me to rest it more, it's hard to get a balance between mobilising & resting. Good luck!

I've got serious oa in my knees but people are encouraging me to focus on physio rather than surgery. I'm over 65 with toe 2 diabetes. Am quite scared of having op and making things worse. I'd be interested to know why people have opted for surgery. Oh yes I do have pain.
