Has anyone skipped a weekly MTX injection (for whatever reason), and if so, did you have any ill-effects?

Thanks Everyone

I can't take it tomorrow (usual day), 'cos I can't get any in time. My GP won't sign off my repeat prescription until I've had my blood test done. I do have some in tablet form left over from before transferring to injections, but they used to make me so ill, I don't really want to fill in with those, and I don't want to change my day of the week either, so I'm thinking of just skipping it for a week. Just don't want to provoke a flare or anything 'cos I'm not too bad at the moment.

Hi

I've also skipped mtx - 3 times when I have been really ill with an infection. I've never missed more than a week. I've had no I'll effects. Your suppose to stop mtx if you are taking antibiotics.

If in doubt contact your rheumy team.

Good luck

Thanks sciqueen, I'm going to be daring and take a risk - throw all caution to the wind!! - I might even have a better day than usual on Thursday?

Yes I have missed them due to illness and didn't flare up much the next week. Hope you get ur blood tests results soon, check with the Rheumy helpline but I think you can re commence straight away when the results are ok or the illness has gone completely. Hope u feel better soon with the meds xx

I had to stop my methotrexate in January due to commencing chemo in February. chemo ended in May and I'm still not taking metho. I have 10mg Leflunomide which was the top up for metho when I was on it. My rheumy says she will leave things as they are as I'm not having any problems at the moment. I won't see her for a year, unless I feel worse and need to contact her again. So I don't think missing one treatment should make much difference. I had to do it quite often due to illness when I was using it. xx

I'm on tablets but I've missed it a few times because either I forgot to take them or because the surgery hadn't done my prescription in time. I was absolutely fine - it takes a while to get into your system and it takes a while to get out again.

Hi I missed my injection 2 weeks ago because the chemist didn't get them in time, but I had no effects from missing a week, so please don't worry.

Thanks Susanbet glad you had a great time in NZ and that the 'day-after-crap' didn't spoil it for you. Wouldn't it just be great to get rid of the 'day-after-crap' for good. xx

That would be all my Christmases at once! I find that the process of getting everything ready to do jab sometimes starts to panic me knowing how I will feel the next day. Latest is using anti sickness wrist bands! Seems to help a bit. X

Where do you get those from? I start to feel nauseous approaching Wednesday evening when I'm due to do the jab - I'm sure that must be psychological! xx

Yes my consultant tells me I have a 'psychological' problem with drugs! Like to see them deal with after effects and carry on with everyday life! Wrist bands are just the travel sickness ones. I get then from amazon or they are available in Boots. X

Thanks for that - I'll look in Boots and give one a try. Wrg consultants passing stuff off as 'psychological'. My Husband has been in gradually increasing pain for over twenty years - he was passed from Specialist to specialist none of whom could find anything wrong (a long waiting list for each of course). He had been with the pain clinic for a few years and had the occasional steroid injection into his back plus acupuncture, tens, etc, etc. On one visit, a passing 'person' knocked his notes off the end of the bed and didn't pick them, so my husband did, and had a bit of a nosy......read a report from one of the consultants from a few years previously which stated that he thought my husband's pain was psychosomatic....of course the view of every other doctor who looked at those notes after that date must have been 'coloured' by that opinion. My husband was beginning to feel as though he was going mad so went back to his GP and requested a referral outside our health area. Eventually got an appointment - on the first visit they did a scan (why had no one else thought of that?!!!), and found a tumour growing in his spinal cord (low grade thankfully). So I'm afraid I don't have a lot of time for consultants who say its psychological. xx

Hi Marmaduke. I have been on MTX since March 2010 (tablets) then injection March 2011. Like many others I came off the tablets due to the sickness. I went to Australia for 4 weeks in Jan 2011 and didn't take my medication at all as I didn't want the horrible side affects. Now whenever I go on holiday or when I know I may be drinking a bit more than usual (my sons wedding!) then I miss my MTX.

So far, I have never had any flare ups, and it feels so good knowing that I wont have that horrible "crap" day afterwards and the feeling of dread leading up to taking the injection !!! x

I was under the impression that MTX was a long lasting drug given the time it takes to have an effect when you first start taking it.... I may be wrong though. I have missed jabs when poorly and when I just couldn't face doing them with no ill effects. You should be fine on the very odd occasion but I wouldn't make a habit of it! Why not check with your specialist nurse? x

I stopped taking MTX about 3 months after I began taking Cimzia. Initially I stopped on my own because I was going on a cruise and wanted a glass of wine now and then. When I told my doctor he told me it was alright, not everyone needed it. I had stomach and intestinal problems with MTX so had switched to the injection, which bypasses the stomach, and outside of feeling tired for one day it was ok, but as it turned out I never went back on it and I've been fine. I am just getting over my first cold so have to delay my Cimzia about a week, but no flares so far. I've been on Cimzia for 13 months and it is a miracle drug for me. ( I tried Humira but it did nothing.)
