Watching Casualty as per usual right now & there's a patient with RA - about time too! Funny thing is I KNEW she would have RA as soon as she appeared! Spooky! xx

No, it wasn't complicated and the service team are extremely helpful. I think you get a trial month.

Yes thanks Luce! I opened my emails this morning , saw this and went straight onto iplayer to watch it. I haven't watched Casualty in about ten years now! Pleased Charlie Fair head is still in it though :-) always had a soft spot for him!

She was asked what she took for her RA & replied 'Just the usual, Paracetamol, anti-inflammatories...' which struck a bum note because as she was meant to be in constant pain & was on crutches the 'usual' would have been DMARDs or anti-tnfs.

I think that inaccuracy was required as she was self-medicating with cannabis for pain relief & to mention Mtx or whatever would have been to imply that the standard drugs don't always work! And that wouldn't sit easily with Casualty's public service remit.

But it cheesed me off a bit not because I want to be pitied but I do want my friends & family to get there little heads around the fact that I have a serious bloody illness & take some serious bloody drugs so that I don't have to constantly explain myself.

But hey, it's a start! xx

I think it was meant that she had decided not to take the standard RA drugs and was just self-medicating for the pain, but it certainly did not make that clear. I thought it was poor because it implied that all you have to take for RA are just painkilling drugs, no mention of the other toxic ones we take.
